I started slipping into a depression recently and anxiety has been a big problem. Here is a poem that I started today to vent. I may refine it later because I don't like the second half as much as the first, but for now it is what it is.
* * *

There’s no bogeyman in the kitchen
there are no goblins beneath the stairs
there’s no monster hiding under the kitchen sink looking to catch me unawares
but I wake up in the morning
the alarm rings and I want to hide
the monsters aren’t out there,
no instead they’re trapped inside

a sense of danger on the fringes
I search the room but find no foe
yet the darkness from the other room seems to haunt me and bids me not to go
don’t try and face the day
you’ll only trip and stumble more, so why face it anyway?

this is where I’m stuck
and the prison seems so gray
hope appears a scary thing in contrast with today
complacency at least promises familiarity and reason
it is hard to press on, believing that this is just a passing season
I am not where I want to be
but I don’t know how to get there
it seems so far from where I am

I would advise talking to your pastor or a Christian counselor because I feel like you have been struggling a lot more lately with sadness. I hope you get to feeling better soon

I agree....you really need to speak with someone from your church or a counselor. Someone that can guide you out of this dark place. There may be places where you live that offer free counseling...please check into it...

You may also want to look into Victory Over the Darkness by Neil Anderson. 8 week DVD sessions along with a book and study guide. This is a VERY powerful Faith Based tool. It was EXTREMELY instrumental in assisting me in overcoming my depression (which I had suffered from for YEARS) not realizing that I had a spiritual problem more than I had a medical problem. He also has another series called The Bondage Breaker - I used those 2 resources with a friend and they helped me get healing from my depression. I will be praying for you - I know how debilitating depression can be. Medication in the beginning can help to lessen the pain so that you can get the additional help you need.

I think the poem is good as is. It's the first thing I've read that clearly states the thoughts and feeling I have during my sessions of depression. I agree with the others, please seek someone to speak with.

Oh my, I have been at that place you are in myself. Run, do not walk, and have a chat with your doctor about this. Yes, get a referral to a counselor and know that even a mild med can help. You do NOT have to suffer... please seek help.
