Time to catch up...

Sunday night I paid a visit to the ER.
I noticed around 8 pm that I did not feel quite right, had the feeling blood-pressure was up. So I took the cuff out of my kit and checked .And for sure, it was 200/100. What the heck is going on. I did not have any stress, went shopping earlier, took a power nap, prepared my food for work... so, why all of the sudden this high blood pressure.
I should have called for help then but I guess you understand it is not easy to make a 911 call and have the comrades from the ambulance come out. Thought with a good night's sleep it would get better.
So, I went to bed and read a little bit until I really felt weird. Got up again and checked on BP, by then it was 10.30 pm. 230/110... WOW! I have to go.
So I started the machinery.
The paramedic that came out was the same I was on an emergency call with a few days earlier - high BP patient. She kept on measuring and measuring and wound herself up.
He recognized me and asked how often I had measured... I told him, "only tow time, at 8 pm and at 10.30 pm - I know better than that" *lol*
To make a long story somewhat shorter... after a few hours at the ER, ECG and the whole nine yards, the pressure went down to 137/85 and I was discharged.
Well, by then it was almost 3 am. No way I could make it to work at 7.30 am, not with a 1 hour commute. So, I informed my boss that I would be late.
This is no problem, the problem came when my boss suggested all kinds of things that should be considered with the high blood pressure.

As you all know, I just changed my diet to what I think is a pretty healthy way of eating. I am having ALMOST no more meat, weaning myself off. A lot of veggies and healthy fats and calorie controlled. So, what else can I do? Of course, my weight could be one factor why the pressure is high at times. Hope it will get better once it is off. In the meantime I have to watch out for those spikes. Too risky - chance to end up with a stroke is darn high.
I saw my Dr on Wednesday... she suggested to take the BP every other day when I am kind of relaxed. Well, I am not putting any money into a BP device, and to measure it myself with the regular cuff is kind of a hassle. I will take some homeopathics that actually balance BP, hopefully that keeps it within a normal range.

I have an idea what the source of all this is... so someone give me a new boss. Even without thinking about work I am sure sub-conscience went into overdrive and caused it. Pretty obvious since it was Sunday night.
Pressure the whole week, and it spiked on Thursday (not BP!). I was in charge of arranging our Halloween Potluck. I love to do those things though it can be pretty tough. Worst thing was that right at noon there was a meeting planned so I had to abandon the potluck (some other things were not going as well as they were supposed to). Joined the meeting, took the notes. We left the meeting room, I went to my cubicle, my boss looked over the side and asked how it was going upstairs. I could have jumped into her face. I was just sitting next to her in the meeting, how was I supposed to know???
I had made her aware by the beginning of the week that there was an overlapping but she insisted that I join her meeting. Well, now that the meeting was over she came up to me and said we should have cancelled the meeting so I would have had a chance to tend to the potluck... She thought about it but did not say it... BS!

Things like that go on all the time with her. She is a meeting freak! Nothing can be done, decided, without having a lot of people repeatedly involved. Sooner or later she will run our unit into the ground. I hope upper management catches it before it will really happen.

On the other side, the week ended very nicely. I decided despite being a little behind with my work to take Friday afternoon off. A friend off mine is a medical massage therapist and he had offered treatment for the afternoon. I could not get there fast enough.
I noticed, though I have all the means, I am not taking time to relax, get rid of the stress, the tension. Being on that massage table I don't have a choice and I can feel fiber for fiber relaxing...it is just wonderful.
Anyway, he took his time, working on my still sore shoulder from a fall last winter and then tending to some points that have to do with stress and tension as well as hypertension. It was sooo good!
We went for dinner after and had a very good time.
Well, I need to tell you about him, the massage therapist, but I'd say I keep that for tomorrow. This entry is very long already :-)

You're watching your sodium aren't you? Cutting mine down took my bp right back down. You gotta watch that stress. Even skinny people can have high bp. Genetics can play a role too. That's what I'm fighting against.

msbuggirl, so far I have not been paying too much attention to my slat intake. I prefer to use some salt while I am cooking food instead of using the salt shaker afterward. If it would be the sodium I guess my BP would stay up all the time. Well, I think I have to figure it out (and have avoid the processed food I had every now and then).

That's where sodium is really high, in processed foods. Anything on a shelf or the freezer. I get frozen vegs or canned with no salt added. I also use French's No Salt sodium free salt substitute. It has potassium chloride instead. We can all use more potassium but it doesn't go well with some meds (according to my mother). Good luck getting it all under control.

Thanks msbuggirl, I will try hard :-) As for processed food, I rarely have canned veggis. I buy fresh and cook at home. Looked over my food diary, almonds should be natural and I definitely need to stay away from meat.
