Hey my Buddies:

Carbs, carbs carbs. So many opinions about what, how much, and when to eat them!

We need carbs for quick energy, and for people who exercise regularly this can be important.

But what to choose? I tend to eat my carbs as fruits and vegetables throughout the day with some Bran Buds thrown in for fiber.

The "bad" carbs for me usually mean anything from the bread, crackers, cereals, wheat flour or even corn groups. The sugar/craving cycle starts if I choose tortilla chips, cereals (even whole grsin), breads, etc.

And, there is often a discussion about getting more carbs eaten in the morning since our body will use the carbs for energy and not store them as fat.

It is also about our body's ability to process insulin - which is what tends to happen when we consume carbs - there is a spike and a crash.

What carbs do you choose, when do you eat them?

I am dedicated, determined, and diligent!

I have fruits and I count my number of triscuits if I have any. I am maintaining to what im doing is different. but for me I pick one carb I really want - be a hot dog bun or pizza and I only have a small amount of one bad carb a day ( I know with my exercise I balance out) and then the rest are good carbs. I keep mine between 100-120 to maintain... if im going to have pasta and meatballs for dinner - I wont have any other bad carb during the day. I pick one. it works for me - but everyones different :) and I do have my bad at night most days...

Most carbs: veggies. I've loosened the grip on some things like rye crackers, etc., the past few months... but try to avoid anything with 'enriched' on the nutrition label. Probably mid-day for me ~ lunch. Breakfast is usually just coffee w/coconut oil and butter and dinner has mostly veg but I'm finding too much insomnia following that so may go back to oatmeal (old fashioned) as a night time snack.. I need my sleep.

I try to be self-righteous and only eat fruit and veggies. But since on maintenance, I've incorporated bread. Usually a rye or pumpernickel. Actually had rye toast for lunch because I only had protein for breakfast. Actually experimenting to see what I will be able to eat while maintaining my weight.

I do fine when I limit my "bread like" carbs to just a half slice of whole wheat-whole grain bread per day. If I have a small portion of pasta, I do NOT have the bread. I LOVE fruit and have found that it completely stops any craving for processed sugars in candy, cake, cookies, and such. But I can not large portions of fruit without gaining pounds. Balance is the "fat secret."

I eat my fruit from first thing in the morning through til lunch time. A whole mango or melon. Followed by some sharon fruit or bananas. Lunch is usually a salad. I have so much more energy now I am laying of too much protein and totally avoid dairy. No cravings for any other sugary things. After I don't know how many years of digestive problems I am sorted :) That alone makes me happy.

I love fruit, and I am trying to stay away from too much bread which I find very yummy but not so good to me.
