maeday42's Journal, 20 August 2018

I have been so out of sorts this week and really haven't stuck to any diet. People have lied to me, hurt me and just plain upset me over promises not kept. Then the stove went, dryer went and my dog got skunked! I say "my" dog, cause after the skunking, no one but me did anything. The consensus was to leave him on the back porch until he doesn't stink anymore. I've bathe him 4 times now and I can still smell him. I had cheese doodles for dinner and feel worse about myself today then I have in a very long time. All day yesterday I wanted to scream or cry or eat crap food, being self destructive, I took the crap food. I've got to pull myself up by my big girl panties and get back to where I belong, I can't let others try influence me!! How does one ignore them, I don't know, but I know I feel worse when I give in to my feelings. So, today I've gotten up and went straight to the cookies, then said NO! Made some eggs instead. Now off to exercise (first time in a week), then bathe the dog again. Hopefully, the third bath is the charm.

I feel ya. It's hard to focus on the positive when being bombarded with crap. At least your dog smells better, you get a new dryer and tomorrow is another day.

My dog also got "skunked" about 3 months ago. It was 4am and I let him outside before turning on the lights on the deck. If I had I would have seen the skunk right outside the door (I guess the skunk was checking for bird seed that may have fallen from the bird feeder). I had a chow when I first moved here who got skunked twice. So I had the stuff to mix to bathe Bobby - baking soda, Dawn dish soap and peroxide. He's a terrier and his fur isn't thick. Bathed him in the shower just once and it worked. It took 2 or 3 times with the chow chow. And it helps if there is no carpet in the house for the dog to roll around on. Good for you for skipping the cookies! I couldn't have done that - the only way I can resist the bad stuff is not to have it in the house. Easier if you don't have anyone in the house who wants to eat different foods than you!

Think about it like this— when you abuse yourself in response to things others say or do to you—- they have WON! They control your life. You might as well get down and grovel at their feet and say abuse me some more. You may not be able to always control a situation but you can control your response to it. Remove their power. Ignoring or walking away from them or limiting their access to you sends a message.

Well those experiences weren't fun - glad to hear you've come to your senses and dropped that cookie in its tracks. Haven't had the skunk experience with a pet but sounds like Fritzy has a method to remove the odor. Years ago I heard that bathing them in milk will do the trick. Bathing the dog surely counts as exercise, right? ;) There's your silver lining in this catastrophe.

Poor doggy and poor you! Crappy food will not help... but you already know that... Hang in there, this too shall pass!

Sounds like you need to let out a huge primal scream! It actually works for me when I am really stressed or frustrated - I also have a small cardboard box that I toss up and hit as hard as I can - just do something to get it out - best of luck and good decision with the eggs!

Maeday42, I had beagles who got sprayed quite a few times. Tomato juice or soup will neutralize the smell.

It can be very hard to see clearly when you feel everything is falling apart around you or being thrown at you. Your on a new lifestyle journey and with every journey there’s going to be bumps in the road. You have handled the present situation exceptionally and will continue to learn to do so in the future with anything that you’re confronted with. Stay strong and take comfort in knowing that venting to people like us who care about your outcome and have experienced similar situations can also help.

What a lousy week!! Sometimes junk food is the only thing that DOES help,...but take the small treat and then have something REALLY good for you nutritionally. It's just a small slip, not an avalanche,...skunk, whewwwww that has to be the WORST smell ever!! Proud of you for making it through that day ? Week?
