For me, it was knowing I allowed anything I wanted as long as I kept calories within a certain level. This way, I never felt like I was being deprived of anything. If I wanted something, I could have it, just not as much as I'd normally have when I was out of control. I look at my allowed calories the same way I look at my financial budget. I can do anything I want, as long as I save up money, and I can eat anything I want as long as I save up the calories. Hope this helps.

I am now on a calorie deficit diet and actually count my macros accurately and it’s made a major difference in my life

Another thing I did was to set a curfew on my eating. I am finished by 8pm. I did this because most of my previous binging was done at night while watching TV. I also start eating later in the day, because for me, once I eat, I'm hungry all the time. So I basically have 6 hours (between 2pm and 8pm) to get all my calories in. I try to eat dinner around 6pm allowing for a span of time for a small dessert before 8pm. This isn't for everyone, but after morning coffee, I'm just not really hungry until about 2pm anyway so it works for me.
