Snowmageddon is coming!!

Given the 24/7 news coverage it does seem more appocolyptical than it probably is. It definitely is a big hairy storm, but it is not the end of the world as we know it! Although, I actually did buy a roof rake for the first time ever. We are forecasted to get between 2 and 3 feet. The best thing about the storm is that the news coverage has shifted from Deflate-gate!

Had a wonderful veggie mash tonight. It was a mix of cauliflower, parsnips and carrots. Another Nom Nom Paleo recipe. Made enough for at least 2 or 3 meals. Reheats great! Had it with a modified chili recipe I made the other day. Stew beef cooked in the pressure cooker, with butternut squash, some tomato paste and broth, onions and garlic of course, and a bit of bacon. Ran out of chili powder, so I use an Ethiopian spice blend and it was delicious. Very hot! The sweetness of the veggie puree was perfect with it.

Went to the grocery store today to stock up since I never got there this weekend. We had a snowstorm on Saturday, and I knew the stores would be crazy yesterday with the forecast of a blizzard Tuesday. The cashier at Trader Joe's said that it was a record day for them yesterday! Crazy. Then I had to go to Stop n Shop later to pick up yogurt for DH. It was interesting to notice what people stock up on for a storm. Seems carbs and cheese were big! Mac and cheese, Cheez-its, white bread...Yikes! Would be interesting to do an actual survey of purchases people make before big storm events. How much is rational, and how much is comfort driven? As a former marketing analyst, I would love to see the data of purchases on these pre-storm days versus regular old days.

What did I buy for comfort...chocolate of course! Will keep just fine even if we lose power. :)

Ha, that's an interesting observation. I think I'd probably have mac and cheese in my cart, I have to admit. I was in London when the tube was bombed some years ago, and I ate half a box of Cheerios that day watching the news coverage. Right out of the box. So yeah, emergencies bring out some weird eating reactions.

You all stay safe and warm. With the national 24 hour news everything turns into an overblown event. When I lived in the NE, 60's and 70's weather events didn't seem to warrant to much panic... here the white bread, chips, soda, and beer seem to be emptied pretty quick. I want to make sure my batteries in my flash lights are good and my weather radio and that I'm not almost out of dog food. Power outages are our issue.

Ha HA ha - I love the idea of doing a survey to see what people buy when they know they will be at home for days...I grew up in Massachusetts and was just out of college during the big storm of '78 living in an apartment in the Back Bay...The snow piled so high on the fire escape outside I could no longer see out the window!

Oh and the mashed veggies sound great - I love my mashed cauliflower as a potato substitute. It might be nice to add some mashed carrots to it.

Snowmageddon ... Ha Ha! Love it! Your veggie mash and chili sounded so good and nutritious! It is funny what people stock up on. I know my DH and I (when I am not on a diet) will buy our little comfort foods. For me it's always chocolate. :)

Had Snowmageddon in 2006 here. We were without power for about 6 hours. Some friends of ours were six seeks.

HCB I was in Binghamton, NY that winter, we could not see out of our 2 nd story windows!!! We had 9 feet in 3 days. A friend lost her house, watched it float out to sea from bear's neck in Gloucester in that big nor'easter. Before the days of 24 hour TV news. I lived in Back Bay, a little while before you, 1971. On Gainsborough Street.

We have about 3 feet of snow. It was still coming down as it got dark, but at least the wind had died down. For hours on end the snow was coming down sideways. Most schools are closed tomorrow, and the roads are still in rough shape in lots of places. My daughter who lives in Plymouth, (right near the rock!) lost power during the night. She went to stay with a friend who still had power. Fortunately we didn't lose it...so I got to work on taxes. :( Financial aide forms due by Sunday. Double :(

Glad things are good, yudj57 . The power is the issue due to heat, no power for awhile is dangerous this time of year.

I can't imagine 3 feet of snow. I am so glad you have power and that your daughter had a friend's house to go to. I just did my taxes last night. Glad that is over with. Stay warm!
