I don't know what the heck is going on but I seem to be gaining weight! I am really mad right now and I want to smash my scales into a thousand pieces! I have been walking every day for at least 45 min. to an hour. Yesterday I worked my butt off for 3 hrs. at my mother's house helping her with a ton of yard work. I have been trying to watch my intake and according to my RDI and my Fat/Crabs/Protein graph I'm doing ok... so what the hell!!!???

are you drinking lots of water? be sure too. I would also encourage you to take measurements regularly. it's not all about the scale, you could be losing inches. Hang in there!!

The fatsecret exercise calculations are very high. Better to calculate on another site and add here. I have a Fitbit so I go by the exercise total there. Good luck!

also muscle is heavier, :)

You may very well be gaining muscle with all that exercise, which weighs more. Check your dimensions vs your weight. You might find you are actually shrinking but the scale isn’t reflecting that.

I second that about the fat secret calculations being high, I used weight management from Samsung health and on the extreme weight loss 2lb a week I am at 1000 calorie deficit, so I am 1300 with 5 miles of walking everyday.. here it had me at 1900 calories, at that rate I will not lose weight so I manually set it. if you are using android I highly recommend Samsung health app it really works

Remember that muscle weighs more than fat. You are working out so I would expect you are replacing fat, which weighs less, with muscle, which weighs more. Hence possible weight gain. Also there, as a result, might be some inflammatory processes going on which will cause you to retain water. So if you are sore... But the good news is all this is passing. Try not to obsess about the number on the scale. I know... easier said than done. I had a five week plateau that really bummed me out. But when the dam broke, it broke big. Hang in there.

Also remember that that RDI is based on the activity you do and it is a MAINTENANCE calorie suggestion not a weight loss suggestion.. How many calories to take in to maintain your CURRENT weight based on your current level of activity. I read that a couple of times— I thought no way could I eat that many calories.

Thanks everyone. Yes I drink about 1/2 to 3/4 of a gallon of water every day just because I really like it so much. I'll start measuring myself to see if I notice any size increases from all the exercising and I'm also gonna start checking my fat ratio... as a couple of people on here said I'm probably replacing fat with muscle.

@Kenna Morton - Thanks, I didn't realize that the RDI is based on maintenance. I thought it was what is recommended to lose weight safely based upon my current age, weight, level of activity, etc... Now that I know that I can adjust my daily intake to better control my desired weekly weight lose goals

Everybody's body is different. For me, once I hit 45 I could not eat more than 1500 calories and not gain weight. I exercise a lot, but even a 5 mile run only burns 700 calories. Skipping breakfast and having a 200 calorie lunch helped me stay around 1500 calories a day and maintain my weight. That's why it took fasting for me to finally actually lose weight. Anyway good luck, you will work out what works for you.
