DairyKing's Journal, 05 July 2012

Enjoyed my 4th celebration. DD works as a bartender at one of the local American Legions, and they were closed yesterday. So, DW rented the place, and we all enjoyed an afternoon and evening together with friends and food. We even had a couple dogs down there - the 4-legged kind, not the ones you eat, although we did have some jalapena and chile 'dogs'. :) DW took her Ninja drink mixer and we enjoyed some exotic concoctions. Mine was a dreamcicle drink that tasted like the creamcicle ice cream bars I used to eat when I was younger. Was pretty tasty with a bit of a kick. Got home about 10:00 and got to bed about 11:00. Fireworks stopped blasting just before I crawled into bed. Set the alarm for 3:30 to get in a 'speed workout', but wasn't feeling very speedy when I woke up. Ended up getting up at almost 5:00 AM. I don't much care for the fact that Independence Day fell on a Wednesday this year; don't like going to work the next day. Would have liked to workout, and would have if I didn't have to come to work. I think I needed the sleep more than I did the workout. Perhaps I'll make a stunning comeback tomorrow morning! Toodles.

WOW - DK that sounds like a really fun day! Did you have the fish fry, too?

No, HCB; no fish fry. Did get the propane bottles refilled, so it's fair game for cooler temps. One of the reasons, besides the heat, is that the friend who caught all the fish, is not doing very well, dealing with kidney stones (last exam showed size to be 3 Cm). I'd hate to try and pass that! Guess he's going to have to have them blasted, or surigically removed.

Ouch - that sounds rough for your friend. And, duh, I suppose it was just as hot in Illinois as it was in Minnesots - if not hotter! Frying fish outside would have been easy - you coud hve laid them on the sidewalk and forgot about the deep fryers all together!

Glad you had a good day yesterday. I agree, Wednesday holidays are pretty crappy. Although I do enjoy having two 2day weeks... look at the bright side, tomorrow's already Friday :) Good luck getting that workout in tomorrow morning!

Glad you slept in and let yourself catch up on your sleep. Sounds like you had a good day. Fireworks are banned here so apart from a couple of loud bangs and gunshots here and there it was all quiet.

Haha, Karen; "gunshots here and there"! LOL. I think we can get away with fireworks here, but they kind of frown on gunshots here and there. :) I guess if you want a murder to go unnoticed for a while, then doing it, in the evening of the 4th, would be the way to go. Some of those cannister rockets made the ground shake with multiple explosions "thump, thump, thump"! Those kinds of things are illegal here also, but lots of people go down south where they are legal, and bring back truckloads. You see the sheriff's deputies parked at various locations, and they seem to ignore everything, and don't move until all the noise is over, and they figure it's safe to venture out. I think they know it's useless to charge someone, and find enough evidence to convict them for setting off things on the 4th of July.

I know what you mean about The Fourth of July landing in the middle of the week. Seems we had two "Monday's" this week. Got to love those fancy-schmancy cocktails! Quite colorful!

Yes, and those fancy-schmancy cocktails can sneak up on you. And did I mention the homemade rhubarb cake? Ymmmm!

Sounds like a fun time :-). Bugger that it was a Wednesday and you had to go to work the next day.

Oh My Gosh! I just noticed that you mentioned John Wayne & Clint Eastwood on your previous journal. The context was our discussion about films. My husband is "cwazy" about both John Wayne & Clint eastwood. Also - the film "Gran Torino" with Clint Eastwood features the exact avacado green Ford Torino I drove in high school. The same model, make & year. The car was my mom's. It had ben "total'd in a roll over accident and my dad did a complete "Torino make over" in his auto body shop. The axel had been bent and the steering never was quite right. I always felt as if i was holding the wheel in a sort of catty-wamp-a$$ way! Anyway! Bruce Willis & the two guys mentioned here are guys' kinds of guys!

Sounds like a perfect day, DK! Glad that you and your family (especially your DW) enjoyed it.
