I cooked for extended family recently and made just good, low-cal food (teriyaki chicken, brown rice, roasted broccoli) and they liked it. I'd suggest asking the 12-year-old to help you cook or just cook what you need to eat and let them decide whether to eat your food or make a PB&J for themselves. (-:

I have a 16 y.o. who is a vegetarian. And I am doing Atkins. My DH is great with what I make for dinner. But I have several easy meals that I can cook for my daughter that are fairly simple. It is too important to me and my health to not persist in spite of this, or any other obstacles that life presents each and every one of us. You can do it. Work with the 12 y.o. to come up with a plan that will satisfy both of your needs. Sometimes we assume others will not be willing to adapt to our needs, rather than asking for the help.
