Good morning!

It's Monday, and I am now on my second week of sick leave.

I'm getting better at sleeping on my back, I got in a whopping 6 hours of sleep. Sure, still not really enough but much better than the 3-4 hours that I have had so many nights recently. I'm happy that the few times I woke up I was able to go back to sleep.

The healing process seem to be going as planned. My pains are still mainly from the "bathing suit area", and woe those pains. It's still a wonderful deep purple color, and hurts like a mother.

Yesterday my main gripes were those pains, and my sore back. Still no pains from the actual surgery, so I suppose I shouldn't be too whiny. :-)

I realized last night that I probably get some of my backaches from reaching my laptop. I have to shift my recliner kind of far back to sit right, and there is a limit to how close I can pull the laptop, as I have a bunch of external stuff attached to it.

I realized that we bought a little Bluetooth keyboard for Wife's tablet a while back. She could get used to the touch keyboard so we tried this instead. Now she is better off just using the tablet keyboard, so the external one is just sitting in a drawer, sad because it isn't being used.

I figured out to connect it to the laptop, so now I can put it on a dinner tray close to me, and not have to reach too far. It's good for shorter text entries, but not longer things like journaling. For this, I prefer the table, which I am using right now. I'm so used to this, it might actually be easier if I could connect it as a keyboard instead. Hmmm... That just dawned on me. I wonder if I can download an app that will turn my tablet (or phone) into a laptop keyboard? That'll be a good little mission for today, and an awesome tool.

...
The fluctuation/excess fluids are slowly starting to come off me. I am down a full kg these last two days, weighing in at 84 kgs today. Nice. I csn see it getting better, especially on my inner thighs which looked like water balloons only yesterday.

Now if only the pain would go away.

I feel the pains MUCH more when I wear my support belt - which is constantly. I have to wear it for quite a while says the doctor. I really treasure the moments when I shower or change clothes and I get to take it off. It's sooo tedious. Then again, if this is my main gripes, then I probably shouldn't be griping at all, huh? :-)

So the plan for today? Sitting. Then sitting some more. Then lunch. Then sitting.

At least, that's how it feels. I have found a stack of movies that I'd like to watch, along with some tv shows. I have a few things to do online too, even more if I can connect Tabby as a keyboard, and a few other little tidbits.

Another clear mission is to make sure I get enough water. I excel at this when I'm at work, but I'm not too good at it when I spend an entire day at home. This is gonna be spending an entire WEEK at home, so I need to be on top of it. I have set my phone to beep ever hour, to remind me. Every hour I will drink a glass of water. As a matter of fact, it just beeped. I'll be right back...

...

There. Water has been consumed. I'm not really sure what else to put in my journal this morning. Nothing exciting happened yesterday. I did okay on my food intake. I did have a few chocolates, but I don't go crazy on 'em. I felt that I had control when I needed it.

Today, I have prepared sugar free jell-o if I want snacks. I also have fresh pickles and baby carrots. I feel that I need to prepare myself a little for snack time, as I know it will be a boring day, and we all know how the snack monster starts calling our names when we're bored. I feel that I'm prepared for it.

I don't really REALLY concern myself with the whole weight loss part of the journey right now, while recovering from surgery. It's much more important that the body gets what it needs and what it's asking for. I am, however, pretty sure it isn't asking for chocolate ice cream! My goal when it comes to my food choices is to eat enough that my body feels happy and satisfied, without making stupid food choices and without eating too many calories either. It's a matter of finding that sweet spot, I think.

Anyways, I'll save you from more babbling...

Today I'm thankful for :
- Being able to stay home from work and recover.
- Feeling better every day.
- Kitty Cat, who'll keep me company all day.

Happy Monday, friends. Go explore the world outside for me! Life is good!

Good for Kitty Cat - it is his/her job after all! I have three ctas I dearly love. In fact one is trained as a Therapy Pet. He walks on a leash, rides in a special car seat, fetches his mice and almost will shake a paw on command...but not quite. We visit Alzheimer's Units, and he comes to work with me to visit with my patients. The Kooolestttt Kitty ever!

You sound great! Making a wonderful recovery...Be careful with those pickles...sodium, you know.

HCP, that DOES sound like the coolest Kitty! I'm still hoping to "teach" ours to not tear us to shreds...

Baxie, no sodium that I know of. These are the baby cucumbers, they're garden fresh and not actually pickled. Thanks for reminding me, though. Sometimes we forget what is in our foods. Yesterday I almost grabbed a few chips from Wife, and realized the amount of salt that is in them. I want this water weight gone ASAP so I'm not gonna touch any of that for a while.

I feel for you in your boredom. I know I would find loads to do - reading books, knitting, solving crossword puzzles and jigsaws would be my thing - but I HATE sitting or lying down for long periods. So, good luck with that, one day at a time, as they say. Make sure your snacks are nutrient-rich, the baby carrots sound perfect. You're doing great :)

Love the section "I am pretty sure, my body isn't asking for chocolate ice cream" LOL... Probably right there Keld. On a serious note, I think you're right to think about what your body needs to heal, rather than thinking about weight loss. Any additional weight loss needed can wait until later :-). Hope you manage to amuse yourself today.... I feel your boredom x

Hang in there King. Hopefully you have some good movies. Agree with you and Sk1nny that weight loss can come later. Feed that body (a bit) so it can heal. Imagine all the little cells throwing micro-nutrients around to rebuild your body, its all good!

It's great to hear from you every day. Boring days suck but it'll be over soon. I have 3 kitties so I know how you feel :) Cheers to having a halfway pain free kinda boring recovery.

It has been a while since I've been here so first off I have to say that I'm very happy to hear that you are recovering well. Secondly, what a difference in your pictures!! and how great you look. On your TMI, my hubby had hernia surgery and that happened to him too. It does go away. Isn't it funny that when you're at work you want to be home but when you have no choice but to be at home you would rather be at work?? I know that is how I feel when I'm limited on the amount of activity I can do and I'm just sitting around. Take care and hopefully today won't be as boring.

Keld, have you ever seen those kind of bed pillows with arms? They look like you're sitting in a chair while you're in bed and they prop you up. Will something like that help? If you don't know what I mean, I can PM you a pic.

I'm so grateful that your wife is the wonderful woman she is...and is not at all intimidated by you befriending all these people and sharing your journey! Some women would be jealous, and really put off. She's a good woman - and a great partner to you - from the sounds of it! Perhaps you could use some of your quiet time - to write her a love letter - just to surprise her or say thanks for all her support!!! Much Love, Keld - speedy recovery prayers to you!!!

Everyone, thank you. I really appreciate your inputs. Boredom has DEFINITELY taken over today, but I am doing okay on my eating. Had pretty reasonable meals, listening to my body, told it no when it wanted chocolate, but had a little extra ham for the protein instead. Helewis, I know what kind you're talking about, and I can't get one just like that here, sadly. I do have a big foam wedge that will prop me up much the same way. However, then I am stuck in the bedroom with even less to do. I spend my time in my recliner, leaned pretty far back, feet on the ground, to have as "straight a shape" as possible. It's reasonably comfortable, only not for 8 hours straight. :/ Jsfantome, your suggestion to do something is already in the works. :) She doesn't know it, but I am taking her to her favorite restaurant same evening as we take the stitches out Friday. She has no clue (and she never reads my journal, so it's safe for me to tell you guys). Davidsmom, I feel REALLY bad for your hubby... this thing HURTS! It still feels like the aftereffect of someone giving me a swift kick you-know-where... It's better though, but far from good yet.

Keld - try putting marks/times on a water bottle that you keep beside you - so you can visually see that (for example) you need to be down to the first mark by 9am, the second mark by 11am, the third mark by 2pm, etc... otherwise the beeping phone is an awesome reminder too!! Good plan on keeping the sodium levels low, try to enjoy this 'down time' as much as you can! :) I know some people that would LOVE the chance to just sit around.. none of us FSers, though.. we are an active bunch.. :) :)
