Ate pretty well today and monitored my percentage of fat intake. Was lower than the days before but made up for it in carbs. I'm trying to pay more attention to how my body feels when I eat and what I eat versus restricting myself to what I think my body needs without paying attention to how I'm feeling. Does that count as being mindful? I did give into temptation and eat some chocolate truffles I got from my friends wedding. They were so beautiful and delicious!
An interesting thing I learned recently is that Japan measures BMI differently than in America. I can't remember where I read it, and I can't find the article just at the moment, but I'll try to fact check it soon. When I went to the gym they did an overall health assessment and TBH, I'm average. For an American woman, I'm average. It was eye opening though to see that I'm 30% body fat though. That's a third of my body! And of course, most of it concentrated in "the trunk."
This week I've been eating lunches at home because it's the beginning of the new school year and the kids have a two week break. But next week I'll be back at school and I'll have to eat the same lunch as the kids, with the kids. And I'm already like HOW THE HECK AM I GOING TO TRACK THIS? I really want to track it because seeing everything calculated out has been so interesting and helpful. I think my plan as of right now is to get a copy of the lunch menu and then I'll have to ask the teachers to help me look at the nutrient break down. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to read it, but kanji is hard! Mostly, I just hope I have the courage to ask for help. It's also embarrassing to talk about my diet with the teachers, but oh well.
Hopefully I'll be able to diversify some of the foods on here, and it'll be a good way to build my vocabulary.
