CarmenR4322's Journal, 23 March 2018

This morning I weighed in at 314.6 pounds which means I reached that 30 pound mark and hit my 10 pound target for the month of March.

In hind sight I feel like 30 Pounds is a HUGE difference but I don’t see a huge difference on me yet. I take pictures monthly and all I see is fat 😔

Wow, 30 lbs is awesome. While you may not see the benefit of your success immediately it should provide you clarity that what you've been doing is working. Sure, it may not be as rapidly as you like, but it is real progress. Keep going your doing great!

Thanks guys for the encouraging words, they mean so much. We are always our own worst critics (or at least I am). My clothes fit better... but they still fit, maybe that’s what gets me down. I’m hitting goals though... on my way to 120 pounds in 12 months.

Carmen, I think you have the right frame of mind. First, 30lbs IS a big deal. But don't celebrate. You are right. There is a lot of work left. THAT is - should be - your focus. It is too easy to slack. Don't. It sounds like you aren't. Celebrate with lower BP, better fitting clothes, better bloodwork, and the knowledge that you are closer to goal. DON'T LET UP!!!!!!

Surely some of your clothing fits looser...I have lost almost 20 pounds, my size 14 jeans are at the point where I can take them off without undoing the button and zipper. Keep it up, success will come, don’t give up and try not to cheat

30 pounds IS a big accomplishment, I think it just takes time for it to show. When i first started it took a while to get in the next size down. Take lots of selfies on your way down so you can look back & see where you were. Congrats on your progress!

Carmen, I started this whole thing at about 340lbs as well. Down to 266 at my last weigh in. Do NOT give up. 30lbs is a huge accomplishment! You will be frustrated, you will be impatient. All of this is human nature. Just power through it. Keep to your diet and fitness schedule, and you’ll see results. Just remember, everything worth having is worth fighting for...

By no means am I quitting, just disappointed. I really thought by the time I hit 40 pounds I’d need to buy a whole new wardrobe because my old clothes would be way to big, but that’s not the case at all they just actually fit comfortably now. I am proud of the weight I’ve lost, I just thought there would be this dramatic change in how I look and I feel like I look the same lol.

Congratulations Carmen!! 30# is a huge success. It took me a while to realize how much of a change I had after 30#. I didn't feel I looked different, my clothes were a little looser but nothing major - I looked in the mirror and saw the same old me. Then I noticed I could get through a basic grocery trip without feeling like I'd been beaten. I could get from the car to the kitchen without sounding like I'd run a marathon. The seat belt in my car didn't feel like it was a constrictor intent on squishing me (still tight but not 'I can't breathe' tight)!! When I finally ventured into the clothing store at around 50-60 # I was down 5 whole sizes!! Be patient and look for the little cues that you are doing the right thing. It was a huge deal the day I took a shower without having to use a shower chair. It was still in there with me but I could stand the whole time. I recently took it out so I could move around better. Those little things that may not seem like much to others were and are huge celebrations for me! I celebrate every single ounce!! Do you realize each ounce is a 218.75 calorie deficit? That is an awesome accomplishment! There have been dramatic changes for you over the last 30# - maybe you just aren't quite ready to see them as such. Today my honey bought me my first leather motorcycle jacket! It's a 4x 😯. NOT happy about that at all! But then (after some online research) I realized 70# ago - I wouldn't have fit in this jacket. All the reviews said order 2 sizes up from your regular size for the best fit. I slipped the jacket on and it fit beautifully - zipped right up....and I look Bada** HOT in it!!! I'm ok with the number on the tag - it is JUST a number. I won't allow that to take away from what I've accomplished. The weight loss is great, I feel good, we got a great deal on a beautiful jacket that fits wonderfully - why would I let a number on a tag diminish that? Am I where I want to be? Not yet! 😁 But I'm on my way....one 218.75 calorie deficit accomplishment at a time.

Happy_Snappy that is beautifully written! Thank you for those words. I have been a size 24 for SO long, maybe 8-10 years and left myself out of pictures for at least the last 6 years because I’m so embarrassed by how fat I’ve gotten after having kids. My boyfriend brought a new friend over yesterday (one that I haven’t met before) and I didn’t even want to come out of the bathroom to meet him. I honestly think that when I am thin I will always think of myself as fat, because I’ve been bigger than everyone around me since I was 5 years old. I do feel stronger though (I could pull myself up on my horse and get off lol, I can lift my knee higher, I can walk longer and go faster, I could probably even hike a full loop on one of our local waterfall trails. More importantly though my heart isn’t racing or pausing and my anxiety is non existent. I have the courage to do things that I haven’t done in so long. I just need to remember and tell myself ‘I will get there’!
