DairyKing's Journal, 11 June 2012

DD took DW to have chemo today. Now we are doing the weekly treatments with the milder drug. Thank God she no longer has the thrush and sore mouth and feet. She has a little nausea now and again, but she is actually doing very well. After this one, there will be 10 more Mondays of treatment, and then the radiation treatments 5 days a week for 5 weeks. I sure hope, for everybody else's sake, that they come up with an alternative treatment to chemo. This just seems like a shotgun approach because nothing else works. Kill everything in your system - the good along with the bad - and hope you survive it.

Tomorrow and Wednesday, I will be attending a Leadership Summit. It doesn't start until 11:00 each day, but I won't be allowed to have my phone, laptop, ipod, ipad, or any distractions during the summit. So, after about 10 in the mornings, you will experience something from me that you may not have experienced before - quiet.

Had some more rain this morning. Supposed to get it off and on all day. Sun is shining now though. We really need a lot more. Glad God didn't give me my wish as a kid when I must have asked Him to stop with the rain already.

Family I had been mowing the yard for, brought over a pork chop dinner and a homemade strawberry pie yesterday afternoon. That pie must weigh 4 pounds - but I bet it would put 6 on me. :) I had to try it; it was delicious, and no, I did not remove the whipped cream. That would have been against my religion. The bible says that we are supposed to eat what is set before us and not offend anyone. And I didn't offend anyone. :)

That is a lot to get done for chemo. She is a trooper. Knock em dead at the summit. We'll be here when you get done. Yesterday's pie sounds delish. Hope you had a piece for us all ;)

Good job on the pie, DK. Well deserved, especially in the context of biblical compliance. I'm happy your wife is getting the milder drug and the lesser side effects, but I do wish it was over soon. I hate the shotgun and the kill everything in your system approach.

So.... Another 15 weeks of treatment..... Fingers crossed she will be ok to have a great Bonfire night (not sure you celebrate that - we have it on 5th November - on second thoughts duh... This is a UK tradition... To celebrate catching Guy ,Faulkes, who plotted to blow up the houses of Parliament, on the 5th November - some people wish he had suceeded LOL) or Halloween (ours is on 31st October)

Haha, Sk1nny! Funny on the Parliament thing. We will have a bonfire of sorts on the night the kids do the 'trick or treating' for Halloween. Since we live in an old schoolhouse, and not everybody knows that it isn't a schoolhouse anymore, we'll sit outside, sipping apple cider or hot chocolate, and handing out candy as the kids come by.

Cancer sucks, that's all I can say. Your wife and you are so strong for fighting it with smiles - on most days. Ditto on the pie!

Well you will be missed for sure. I enjoy reading your journals. And yet it sounds like a good cause to leave us in such a dreaded silence. Its good to hear your wife is doing better. Boy thats a busy schedule she has. I am almost sure Ive seen somewhere in the bible thou shall not strip thy whip cream off strawberries. Or something pretty darn close. :)

Glad to hear DW is tolerating this better. Find good where ever you can - I'd say a bonfire is definitely in order!

Well see, they did notice. How sweet of them. The pie sounds devine. Praying for your DW. Mom has not been the same since she had her chemo and she didn't finish all her radiation treatments. But she was pretty weak and had lots of other stuff going on when they found her cancer.

I think I ate a 4 pound pie once. Very tasty but rather fattening. Enjoy the summit. Actually the techno break might be nice! Much love to your lovely spouse!

I am happy to hear DW is doing well with the treatments. You are right about chemo: It is like shooting buckshot into the body. Kills everything and then you're expected to survive. I am glad DW no longer has thrush. That is very uncomfortable. Enjoy the summit! You will be missed.

So glad that your DW is doing better with these treatments. Mom was so blessed that she only had to do the radiation therapy. That pie sounds delicious, and I, too, would have eaten it, probably with extra whipped cream!! Have a good week, DK!
