Debbie Cousins's Journal, 10 March 2018

WOW! What a great group of people and extensive “support system” God has placed in my life. The whole time I was in the hospital (a full 7 days), I honestly wasn’t even thinking about the FatSecret Group – but it is WONDERFUL to know that you were thinking of me, and that you “had my back” (or backSIDE, in those hospital gowns!).

I wish I had the time to go back and thank each of you individually for your prayers and comments – from people I have grown to know since 1/1 and people I’ve never heard of. The show of support was very heartening for me. I’ll only cover two things today: (1) How I’ve done diet-wise and (2) the bottom line of how I’m doing every-other-wise.

As far as staying on the Keto WOE, I did an amazing job in the hospital. Each day, I continued to make the very best menu choices available! The vegetables were excruciatingly bland, so I had to ditch them after a few failed attempts to get them in. I DID get either a side salad or a chef salad each day. Either way, I would get a couple cheeseburger patties to cut up on it, or get the chicken tenders and remove the skin and cut up on it. (When I say “cut,” I actually mean TRY to cut with a flimsy plastic fork and spoon – no knives allowed! lol.) I also drank water the ENTIRE time. At first, I was saving the little 8-oz bottlesI had 1/2 cup of orange juice one day and a full cup on my last day. From Wednesday through Tuesday, I never had a bowel movement. I didn’t get miserable, or even uncomfortable. My body REALLY missed those daily Flax Seed Muffins and avocado!!! Haven’t gotten back to “normal” as far as eating yet, because nothing HAS been normal since I’ve gotten home. BUT, I have made at least an “A” – ALMOST what I would call an A+ as far as my choices both in the hospital and since I’ve been home (since Thursday night).

As far as the rest of my life in general, things are going magnificently! I am a little stressed right now, but nothing serious. Just life. I learned some great coping strategies in the hospital. I will be sharing a lot of my stories on Facebook, and if anyone wants the BIG PICTURE, you can send me a Friend Request. My FB Name is Debbie Maurice Cousins. Usually I ignore requests from people I don’t recognize, so maybe you could say, “so-and-so from FS” or something like that so I’ll know who you are. I have no qualms about any of you reading anything I post there.

SO, I’m healthy. I’m happy. I’m being blessed beyond measure! EVERY day in the hospital, there were several things God did to make His presence acutely aware to me! I learned so much about myself, and met people in all socio-economic brackets, all races, ages, belief-systems, and ways of life. I dispelled many “prejudices” that I had and didn’t even KNOW I had, and I learned a lot about areas where I was “falling short” in my own personal growth with God. I KNOW God had me exactly where I need to be every minute of every day during my hospitalization! I was able to BE a blessing to many, and able to be blessed BY many while I was there. The food was fair (not bad), the staff were great, the facilities were clean, the program was super, the fellow-patients were amazing. I made several friendships that will last a lifetime and even met a soon-to-be-famous movie star! Of course, confidentiality is a big concern, so I really can’t san anything about any individual there – but they were all GREAT (with only one trying exception – and even she NEEDED to be there and deserved all of the help and support that could be given to her).

I hope MY being OK with going to the “Behavioral Health” department of a hospital may be an encouragement to many others who NEED to go to get help that they may not be able or equipped to give themselves. With that, I will go back to being good, but probably will only be READING posts for a couple days. SO much is happening within and around me that FS will have to take a backseat for a while, even though my WOE of eating is still a priority close to top of the list.

Welcome back. ((((hugs)))). Everyone needs help sometime but most of us are too stubborn to ask for it .....let alone admit we need it!! ☺. I'm so happy that you had the courage to ask for assistance and were willing to open your heart to the lessons being offered. Thank you for sharing this with us. At our weakest He is strongest! Peace and blessings to you, as is His will.
