Ravyne Hawke's Journal, 27 February 2018

Got in to see the doc today about the back, hip, leg and knee pain. He says it is probably sciatica and wants me in physical therapy. He also gave me some muscle relaxers and tramadol for the pain because it could be up to a week before I can get into therapy. I mentioned that I'd seen a chiropractor in Oklahoma and he started saying... No No No! No Chiropractors. What do medical doctors have against chiropractors anyway? Oh well. He was happy to see that I'd lost some weight and asked about my diet. I told him I was eating veggies, fruit, grains, legumes, nuts and seeds. He said, you are never going to lose weight eating grains. Ha! In less than a week I lost 4.5 lbs. Didn't do it NOT eating grains because I have some kind of grains twice a day. So stuff it doc! I'm gonna eat my grains. This is typical of how all our sessions go. He tries to get me to do things I don't want to do and I am determined to do what I want.

From personal experience, I believe doctors don't like chiropractors because there are things the chiro can fix cheaper for you than the thousands you/your insurance would spend with the doctors/physical therapists. My .02 cents.

That's an interesting observation, SquirrelB. Thanks for your perspective. You may be correct. When I was seeing the chiro in OK, it came free as part of the health package for the company my husband worked for and he did wonders for my back and legs. Not sure how this physical therapy will go.

I think the major reason as to why the doc didn't recommend chiropractors is that there is a very high risk of malpractice, which could cause deaths. But as far as I'm concerned, as long as you make sure that they are currently licenced and is following good practice, you are good to go.

Your doc would really hate what I do as a naturopath! I refuse all chemical medications and use natural alternatives. A good chiropractor can save your quality of life, so if you have found a good one, it is worth the effort to see him.

Even though Chiropractors and Doctors are both about giving you the best quality of life possible,in certain aspects they are in competition with each other. Their way of treating the patient is completely different so they both feel their way is the right way. It's up to us to decide who is best to use in our individual situations. There are certain things I see a Doctor for and other things for a Chiropractor. I have seen a chiropractor heal my husbands skin issues just by adjusting his bones and it came with a much cheaper price than seeing a Doctor. Do what you feel is right for you.

Thanks everyone! And thank you rubytaylor. I am going to try the physical therapy, but if I end up hurting more than it is helping, I am looking for a Chiro and hope my insurance will pay for it.

Sounds like you need to change Doctors.

I wish I could, Gardenia. Unfortunately, I live in a very small town and have little transportation and this is the only doctor who was taking new patients when I moved back here 3 yrs ago. He's not a bad doctor. He's actually done some really beneficial things for me. We just struggle about my diet and he always tries to get me to take a flu shot (which I always refuse).

I was sent to an Orthopedic Dr. for my left leg hurting. I only met him twice but he started bluntly saying stuff about my weight. I don't need someone to tell me about my weight I know I need to lose weight. He told me he didn't think I needed knee surgery. Which I didn't want anyway. I didn't like his attitude so I cancelled my next appt. with him. He told me I had arthritis which my Primary Dr. told me I had. So I've been reading online about unflavored gelatin and bone broth is suppose to help the joints. I've started using those. I need to buy some more though I made my own bone broth because the other is too expensive.

Yes, I've also read that about bone broth and gelatin. I've made my own bone broth before too. It's better than the store bought stuff when you make it yourself. Have you heard about MSM? It is a natural sulfer that our bodies need, but we don't get enough of in our foods anymore because of soil depletion. I bought some of the crystals on Amazon, but you can also get it in capsule form. It is very bitter in the crystal form even in juice, but there are no fillers in it. Anyway, it is supposed to help with joint issues too. Mine is a pinched nerve though, so it isn't helping that, sadly. Here is the product that I bought (in case you want to look into it): Kala Health MSM Coarse Flakes - $19.95 (in case you want to look it up on Amazon). It comes in a one lb container and you only use 1-3 tsp per day, so it lasts a good while.
