Sandy701's Journal, 23 May 2012

3.1 miles walked "earlier" this AM; doggies along for 2.2 miles of it. We took the lake route because we had a fair amount of cloud cover, so the route wouldn't be in full sun - yet. As we walked, the sun pushed on through and it was nearly clear, and much warmer, by the time I brought the doggies back home.

I made some good inroads on pesky things yesterday. My dog now has his annual vet appointment made, I have a haircut appointment made for tomorrow, and I finally took the plunge and made a general doctor's appointment too. It's been over 2 years since I've had anything "done" so I know it's time to get poked and prodded...stabbed and interrogated - LOL! You can see that I have an excellent attitude about things like this! I have a very thin medical history file and I'd like to keep it that way!

But seriously, I know I need to have a general check-up. It really makes no sense to take better care of my dogs' health than my own....at least that's what I tell myself. Unfortunately, the female nurse practitioner that handled all the gyn exams is no longer there and all routine exams are put through the various doctors and their "team." So....that means I'll probably have a male for that exam for the first time in many, many years. Undoubtedly, there will be a female present, so I just need to deal with it....it's not the end of the world. Besides, there are a few other concerns and questions I have, so in a way, it's good seeing an actual doctor as opposed to an NP. Anyway, I have nearly a month to ready myself for this, as that's the soonest they could see me for a "routine" appointment.

You'll have those doggies all toughened up for the summer's heat. As for the doctor's visit, this may be interesting. Am sure your old weight will be right there on the chart.

Lots of appointments for sure..I'm like you I hate to get poked, prodded and interigated...I am sure they will tell a big differance in you this time...if they depended on me for their salary they would be broke...LOL...enjoy your day...:O)

You did take care of a lot of those pesky things! I so understand the taking better care of the pets than ourselves & I will admit, that I have been guilty of the same...in the past that is, I vowed to Not let that happen again. Yes we do need to be seen regularly, no matter how much we dislike it...certain things need to be tested & that's That! So the doggies are getting groomed & you are getting a haircut too, time for pics? I have to make an appointment for doggie-girl's annual too, sheesh, big bucks that is between the visit, the tests, the shots, the pills, the bug stuff...lots of $$$! Take a dip in the pool, relax & enjoy the day with your doggies!

Buffy, I still have a bet with DH about whether or not they'll notice a change in the weight. He says "yes" and I say "no." I'm planning on not saying a word about it unless it is necessary to fully answer a question. I'm just testing to see if they actually read and review one's overall medical history.

GG, you're right....pets are NOT inexpensive! There was a time back in the mid-2000's when I had my current Lab gal as a puppy - and you know how many times one goes to a vet with a puppy - and I had an aging Terv guy. Between them both, for at least couple months, it seemed like I was seeing the vet every week for something or other. I remember joking with the vet that he should just give me a standing appointment each week and I'd bring in whichever dog had an ailment or needed to be seen that week!

I can tell you love your poochies! Our poochies are family -- huh! I really related to the part of your journal where we (all of us) take care of others -- then ourselves. Tough transition for me to take care of me! Have a great day!

Sandy, I think the doc will notice your weight change for sure! Mine didn't say anything directly to me, but commented to the nurse that I had lost like 20% or something like that, which in turn sparked the conversation over how I did it, what my goals were & should be. Hey, maybe doc jynxed me...she said I didn't need to lose anymore, I really haven't either since then...just the same pounds down, up, down, up, up, up, DOWN, up...hmmm.
