Well, it's official. The BF is taking a job in Huntington Beach, California!

................................

Not quite sure how I feel about this yet. Part of me is SO happy he finally found something that is just right for him. It is going to be an amazing career opportunity and will give him the chance to work in the field that he loves.
Another part of me is excited for him because he's finally going to get to live out his dream and move to California.
A third part of me is having this finally sink in that he's going to be almost 3,000 miles away. That's far.

What's scaring me the most is how his attitude has changed about us in the last few months since he was laid off. And it's funny, because normally I shouldn't/wouldn't be scared about this - he's become more attached and more confident in our relationship lasting forever. I don't want to say he's a commitment-phobe, but he was never one for planning ahead in life, and just goes with the flow. "I'm 24 years old.. I don't want to get married anytime soon, I want to move to CA and live the young single life" etc etc. And in the past 4 months it's changed to "You're the only reason I don't want to leave.. I don't want to be away from you, our relationship means too much to me" etc etc. Normally, a girl would be all gung-ho about this, right? And I totally am! I LOVE that he is being more serious about our relationship. But now it makes it even harder for him to leave.

We talked a bunch last night about visiting each other and things like that. We decided that we're going to see each other at the very least once a month. (Flights aren't too expensive, surprisingly) We'll take turns visiting each other and flying back and forth. Then, in June of 2013 we'll start talking about me moving out there... This was the part that surprised me the most. It went from "oh, well, maybe we can start to consider talking about this a year down the road" to "I will not be away from you for more than a year, and either I move home or you come here". And the other part? "I would never ask you to move out here unless I fully intended on marrying you"

So many things to think about...

Well, congrats to him for getting a job! Bummer that it's so so so far away. It sounds to me like you two are both mature and ready to handle this though! Open communication is key. Plus.... you get to have real california dreaming about a future move :)

So true! I'm such a sun worshipper, I wouldn't mind living just a few miles from the beach..

Wow. Indeed! So many things to think about. Sounds like you guys have a good plan. You should have a very good feel for where your relationship is going by the time you've been apart for 6 months. Tough to go through, but I think it will be worth it in the end.

That is awesome! Good for him. What a great excuse for you to travel to CA ;) Maybe he is maturing with all of this commitment talk eh? 24 is early for most guys to mature, be glad lol! It will be hard to be apart, but if you both truely love eachother it will work out and be worth it. Also, I think it is awesome how unselfish you are. Most girls would be like nooooo don't go!! lol That just shows that you care.

That's a total mixed bag of emotions. Sounds like there will be some ups and downs as you both adjust. Glad he found something in his field, although I wouldn't be as gung-ho about Cali as some of you all seem to be.
