DW nudged me awake to the sound of the snooze alarm at 3:30 this morning. She was probably worried it was irritating the dog and cats. :)
A little more energy than yesterday. Surprisingly, the calves and ankles weren't quite as tight this morning. I had been doing a lot more stretching since yesterday morning. Also started doing the toe circles again - kind of like crop circles, only different. Actually, they are a very good exercise for feet and ankles to limber you up. Wherever you are, you just lift your foot off the ground, and while keeping your leg stationary, you draw large circles with your toes. Do about 10 of those, and then do the alphabet; you'll be amazed at how uncoordinated it will feel when you first start - kind of like placing your fingers on the fretboard when you're learning to play the guitar. Repeat for the other foot. And BTW, Jess, I think they're great for achilles Tendonitus.

Ran an easy 3.0 miles at a 11:20 pace. Tomorrow I'll do a mile warmup at the 11:20 pace, do a mile at about 9:00 or 9:10 pace, and then cool down for a mile at 11:20 pace again. That will be it until race day. Supposed to be about 80F on race day, but probably about 60F at 7:00 in the morning when I run. That 60F will feel like 80F after the first mile. I'm excited about the race, but wish I wasn't. I never really liked that feeling - the same feeling I would get before I went into a wrestling match, or jumped out of an airplane. Once it's underway, I'll feel great; but I hate the anticipation. This is like a come-back event - to see if I can do as good or better than I did 8 years ago. I didn't know that much about the right way to train then. I was even heavier than now, but I ran the 5K in about 29:30. Of course, when I got out of the military 15 years ago, I was probably running at a 7:45 pace - but I can't turn back the clock. I have never been a speed demon, but I have been training for an 28:30 time. If I meet or exceed that, I'll be ecstatic. If I beat 29:30, I will be satisfied.

Plans are finalized for a trip just on the other side of Cleveland this Sunday. I will be checking into a hotel room Sunday evening. DW has convinced me she will be fine. Kids will take care of her, and the neighbor will be taking care of the big dogs for me. They have access to my workshop downstairs, and roam about on one acre of a fenced-in area out back. He plays with them and will feed and water them twice a day - as I do (only I feed them at 4:30 or 5:00 in the morning). He's a good neighbor - but not that good! He'll attend to them at probably 8:00 or 9:00 in the morning. They'll be fine with that.

It's going to be beautiful here all week - in the 70's and 80's. Here's wishing all my FS Buddies a great and glorious day!

Thanks for the foot circle exercise. Always looking for something to do at my desk (besides what I am supposed to be doing). I like your attitude about the clock - can't turn it back but we still can "be all we can be".

I used to do those foot exercises when I broke my ankle years ago (I broke it playing squash. Ended up with my foot facing the front wall and my body facing the back wall - didn't have proper squash shoes on and they stuck to the floor). I got used to doing them, as my ankle used to ache and get still - still do it on occasions - although the ankle is fine. Hope it isn't too warm on race day.... :-)

Sazy, I think you're right, the protein after a workout heals the muscles and makes you stronger, but, I don't do milk very well. I did try that almond silk milk and it tasted pretty good. I think it had protein, but not as much as soy or regular milk. Not sure. I'll check on it. Sophie, somebody who appreciates my humor! :) Let's finish those up, Peppy!
