Well, I just found this website and it looks like a good place to keep track of my diet.

I'm doing Atkins, I actually started on Jan 1. at 206 lbs. Induction has not been that hard this time ( I did it once before but I cheated after the first week and gave up.. /bonk self) I like the recipe's i've seen here so i'm going to try some of them. I dont want to get bored with the food. So far i've lost 7 lbs. /whoopee !!

I think my biggest problem is that I'm not logging what I eat, I'm trying to watch my carb intake and use the metabo stix to verify Ketosis.

I will succeed this time... 150.... lookout here I come.

Welcome to the site! I've found some great recipes on here, as well as some great buddies. Just so you know the food journal on here does not count net carbs, so it isn't really useful for us Atkinsers, but some of us log our food in our journal anyway. It is useful sometimes just to keep a record. Good luck!

Yes Lisa - the people here are a great help - one guy convinced me by writing in a woman's journal last week that it's a lifestyle change and "cheat days" aren't really part of Atkins - which completely makes sense now as I really want to get the weight off - and you will find people being so helpful with tips like that, which will motivate you to keep going on the right pathway. I really need to start to journal what I eat too and plan to in the next day or two so I'm not overeating calories even though my carb intake is very low... Best wishes this diet really works if you follow it!!! :)

ohhh... calories.. i've not really been watching those. thanks for the reminder! The food journal doesn't count net carbs... hmm.. good to know !

Do you have to watch calories on atkins?

not strongly, you dont have to. But certainly you don't want to eat all the approved foods so much that you outweigh the benefits of the low carbs. so I do watch them a bit at least at first when i'm adjusting to the new no carb lifestyle. I dont excercise enough to beat down any calories I take in. Too much desk time at work for me.

Right there's no sense going overboard with overmonitoring calorie intake - but be careful I think sometimes I drink iced coffees with heavy cream and I know the carbs are low as I don't put sugar in them but heavy overuse of high calorie foods that are low carb isn't really a healthy lifestyle choice on Atkins - remember veggies steamed with soy sauce and a little flavoring can be an awesome health boost - Atkins isn't all meat and heavy cream all the time! :)

Lots of great points. I think if you just learn to eat until you are satisfied and focus on nutritionally dense foods like vegetables then you won't go over on calories because your body will be satisfied. I love this eating plan!
