crankybuzzard's Journal, 16 November 2017

What a week it's been thus far! Sleep has been ridiculous for several reasons, my kitchen has smelled like a custom bakery for the last few days, and work has me so stressed that I'm ready to move to the Florida Keys and become a beach bum! Marathon Key to be exact, but I'm ready to accept most any Key offer!

However, I would like to add that I've resisted the baked goods, eaten like I'm supposed to, and my stress level has been manageable due to the conversations I've had with a FS buddy here. Sometimes just getting it all out helps, even if it's only in fonts and not verbal! Keep that in mind if you're new here, lots of FS folks are here to assist you and listen.

In the past when I got like this in life, it would be cheeseburgers, fries, and LOTS of alcohol. Now, with my new way of eating, I can still have my comfort food, but it's now half of a rotisserie chicken with some good Cholula hot sauce, and only a wee bit of alcohol. Sometimes I'll toss in one of my fat bombs too!

It's kind of funny to me, I only got SERIOUS about this journey on August 1st of this year. 90 days in and I've not only seen a difference in my body and how I feel physically, but in mind too!

Last night when I got home, after a 19 hour day, I was HUNGRY! It was well past my normal cut off of 7 PM, but I refuse to allow my body to think it's starving. I went into the kitchen and saw several covered plates of cookies, some left over Halloween candy, and some assorted cake thingies. My wife has been baking for the local GS troop's bake sale this weekend, so LOTS of temptation! The refrigerator was where I ended up.

Tired, "starving", and in serious need of a shower, I opted for some left over steak, chicken, and shrimp. Nuked it for a bit, ate it, did my dishes, looked at the goodies on the counter again, then left the kitchen. I wouldn't have done that 3 months ago, I would have gone with quick, easy, and comforting foods! So the mind has begun to get healthier as well as my body it seems!

So, if you're just beginning this journey, trust me, it's gets easier, and it gets really exciting after a few weeks of discipline! I haven't seen the 280s probably since the 1990s! So, the excitement tends to be a lasting thing!

Now, let's all kick Thursday's butt and head into Friday!

Isn’t it pretty awesome how we are retraining our brains. I do the same types of things... I was starving this weekend and walked by the dessert table at a “thanksgiving” lunch without even contemplating the sweets! So you can teach an old dog new tricks 😉
