I regret getting rid of all my "skinny" clothes that hadn't fit in a decade two years ago. Now my new wardrobe, which I invested in when I landed my first professional job, is two sizes two big. Doh! I hate shopping, and I just invested in a new furnace and AC unit which tightened my budget substantially. Hopefully I can pester people for handouts.

Diet news: I drank a beer Wednesday, because an acquaintance of mine manages my date's favorite restaurant and brought us a free round of drinks. I was pretty sick yesterday, so I definitely can't add beer back yet! I'm pretty sure it's maltose (the sugar in malt syrup/grains) that makes me sick and not gluten. I've found I can have hard cider, though, as long as it's truly made from apples and not a malt beverage with apple flavor. We have a meadery in town, so I may try that since I can have honey. Now if I can just figure out how I can get a chocolate fix....

[For those who don't know, I'm on the SCD diet and I can only have fructose and glucose as far as sugars/carbs. No lactose, sucrose, maltose, etc.]

I would really like to pick your scientific brain about food intolerance issues. Shame about the beer; hope the alternatives are delectable.

Tom, pick away! jlbrowne85 AT gmail DOT com. I do really miss beer, but I love dry red wine and whiskey, which I can have in moderation, and hard ciders are growing on me. There's a cidery that has really dry and even hopped ciders, so that subdues the beer snob in me. Glen, it's an old body of research that is experiencing a bit of a renaissance. The book is called Breaking the Vicious Cycle (1994) by Elaine Gotschall, M.S. (died in 2005). It seems like there was a lull in the research when Elaine passed away, but there's a tight little community of people who follow this diet and who have healed themselves with it.
