Horseshu1's Journal, 21 October 2017

Woke feeling like a cold coming on and again my hands were stiff and swollen. I have an appointment with the Rheumatologist this week and it fills me with dread. He is such a ray of sunshine - NOT. Anyway, I did my very passive but time consuming PT exercises today (without weights, but with bands)and that was about all I could do.

When I was growing up all our left overs went into a soup pot that we ate until it was gone, then started another. It is wet, cold and raining today, so when the hands limbered up, I made a delicious chicken soup with a rotisserie chicken leftover. I sauteed onions (small) and celery, then added turmeric, coriander, ginger and a little cayenne and let the spices bloom. Added leftover mushrooms then I placed the leftover chicken on top and filled with water. That simmered all afternoon. I stripped all the meat off the bones, put the meat back in the pot and added riced cauliflower and shredded baby spinach. It was so warming. Nothing like a good hearty soup on a yucky day! It is always hard to enter in food, however, but that ain't going to stop leftover soup in the house!

Soup is the best.

Your soup sounds delightful! I make a lot of soups from whatever i happen to have on hand, and they are so good, and warming on cold days. I hope by now your body has decided NOT to accept a cold, and you are feeling better, and that your hands are feeling better, as well.

Praying you feel better soon. My Momma's Chicken Mushroom Soup always made me feel better.

Good approach - nice that traditions handed down make the best dishes.

I am sorry to read of your on coming cold and arthritis . I know PT is tedious..but please keep it up the alternative is so just the worsening of the debilitation. When I think of my lapse in exercise last winter...i remember most...the sense of loss in physical abilities. I am extremely grateful to have made it back ...to a measure of health...but I am somewhat certain...I do not have that many more chances left.... Your soup is inspirational...I am on it TODAY!

I MUST continue with exercise due to the inflammation. Otherwise I'd be trying to join in here from a fetal position on the floor. My body just keeps contracting if I do not stretch and work those supporting muscles. I am getting better at the PT exercises, but doing more reps, so same amount of time. Yawn, they are boring too!

Boring is ...well boring...but I try to equate it with showering and brushing my teeth...oh so necessary! :>)... I completely concur.... Fetal position if I don't do something physical each and everyday. My old lifetime f2f girlfriend ...often says..."Judy, consider the alternative!"

Horseshu1 - How do you know you have inflammation? Does it show in lab tests? How does it manifest itself for you? I'm asking because blood tests showed inflammation at 18, which was really high number (Doctor said it should be 1). After a month of eating no processed foods/drinks it went from 18 to 10. Are you talking about the same thing? My doctor thinks eating a mostly plant based diet is the way to reduce inflammation. I'm not sure what causes inflammation or what inflammation can cause. I thought I read that allergies may cause inflammation.
