So stressed out. Some sound woke me up before 6am, and hadn't slept much before that. The power had gone out at midnight. The pup started barking and I realized the sound was someone knocking at my door. A neighbor telling me a fire was heading towards us and the sheriff's dept was telling us to evacuate. It was still dark and my neighbor helped me open the garage door. I manage to get 3 of my 4 cats into carriers and in the car. Got the 2 dogs in and packed whatever I could think of. Couldn't get my 4th cat, he was scared and running from me. Without power I couldn't find him with very little light. I decided to leave, hoping it would just be an hour or so. I left the screen door open enough so he could get out. Couldn't stand the thought of my house burning down and him not being able to get out. So I'm 50 miles away at my niece's house - she is in Tahoe with her family. Can't get back into my neighborhood at least until tomorrow. So worried about my cat. I know he went outside as soon as he had the chance and he's been an inside cat for 5 years. I think all the houses are safe. I just want to go home.

I've read about the fires. How terrible. Stay safe! As an aside, my son had a house fire several years ago and his indoor cat disappeared for a couple of days .. but returned eventually. Hopefully he'll be OK,

Waiting for the evacuation order to be lifted - as of now I can't go back. It's a gated community so I can't just drive home. Not much information about the fire to be found because there are so many fires right now and the fire near me isn't big compared to the others. But a big impact on all of us who were told to leave!

I'm so sorry you are going through all this stress... one of my two adopted ferals died last week of cardiomyopathy and I know how important your pets are so I am praying that your kitty will be all right and that your house will not be affected... sending you positive healing thoughts.

Thinking of you and hoping your kitty is found safe once you're back home.

Made it home yesterday about 2pm. There is still an evacuation advisory, but it's not mandatory. Power was finally restored around 10pm. My cat Tony was waiting at the back door wanting in. So I'm so thankful he is safe and happy to be with his buddies, my other cats. Now I can focus on the diet again!. Ate nothing but a salad my nephew brought for me from Mr Pickles (I had told him not to get me anything) on Monday and nothing yesterday until I got home and finished a bag of Ruffles potato chips (that shouldn't have been in the house but was part of a bad day Friday or Saturday). Will weigh myself tomorrow! Can't walk today, way too much smoke in the air. Luckily I had a nice air purifying system put in a couple years ago due to allergies, so I won't smell the smoke inside.

We had an evacuation a few years ago. So scary. I'm so glad you were able to get back home and your cat was there. My cousin is in Oregon and said the smoke has finally cleared a bit. We need rain.

We need rain too. I hope we don't have to evacuate again - the wind is supposed to pick up in a few hours thru tomorrow afternoon. I think the wind Sunday night is what contributed to the fire. I'm just so happy to be home. It is scary to be told to leave your home. I didn't take anything, important papers, etc. Just the pets and a bag with some clothes, toothpaste. No socks, no pajamas, no food for me. But enough dog and cat food for 2 weeks. What you think of when you are leaving................

I lived in the woods for many years and at the beginning of summer, we always prepared for a forest fire. Had a small portable file box for important papers, animal crates on the front porch, box in the bathroom for prescriptions (taken out of medicine cabinet), suitcase packed with some clean clothing plus new toothbrushes and paste, etc. Everything stayed in the area that it was normally located, but could go through and get it all together quickly. Installed gates for livestock that lead to the "creek bottom" which was the best I could do for them, but if we had time we could load some of them in a trailer quickly. Then in the late fall, everything went back to where it belonged. Just a thought.

Horseshu1 - I had a bag packed and in the car about 2 years ago when there were so many fires in California. When it actually happened here I wasn't ready. But still was out within about 20 minutes. But I'm trying to get prepared in case I have to leave again. I've got a bag packed and in the car for what I need for the pets - added a roll of paper towels and paper plates, plastic bags and 4 days worth of medicine for my elderly dog. Plus all their food. They take the most time and most of the room in the car. I'm getting a bag ready for me too - and adding a bottle of wine. Hopefully, I won't need to evacuate again. I am re-thinking living in such a fire prone area. But then, Santa Rosa burned in a mostly urban area so you just don't know.
