cls1992's Journal, 05 October 2017

I started on this journey a year ago. I have been at the same weight since February 11, 2018, when I recorded a weight of 263.4. Yesterday I weighed myself and I was 263.6. How discouraging, huh?

A personal trainer friend of mine told me years ago that the scale was not my friend and to pay closer attention to how my clothes fit.

Evidently, she was right. How can I be at the same weight for 7-8 months, yet drop dress sizes from 26/28 to 18/20; from 3x to 2x (and some 1x's). My shoes are even looser.

I was told that muscle weighs less than fat and takes up less room in the body. So, I have been exercising (not vigorously, but regularly). I go to an aqua aerobics class twice a week. That may be the answer, and one day the weight will match the dress size.

In the mean time, I will continue doing what I'm doing - even improving on my eating habits.

There is no secret to it, other than I have to watch EVERYTHING I eat. I eat more protein than carbs, learned to eat less fruit, and practically no carbohydrates, only apples and berries for fruit. (That hurts, because I love watermelon and grapes [too much sugar]). It is a challenge, though. I don't always get it right, but I get it right more times than I don't. However, it has been quite a journey to get where I am.

I recognized that I will never be able to eat "normally" again and expect to lose weight. That sounds discouraging, too. I want to eat everything I want to eat and not worry about gaining weight like "normal" people. I realize that I am special and unique and am "allergic" to sugars and other stuff that makes me gain weight, so I'm not "normal."

I am learning to live a "new normal" life.

Stay encouraged, my friends, this is a life long journey, not just trying to meet a number and go back to what got us in the overweight category in the first place.

Congratulations on maintaining your weight for that long... that's great! It is frustrating when the scale doesn't reflect what you see in the mirror. The scale will catch up eventually.....

Muscle weighs more than fat (for the same volume .. i.e. it's denser), so quite often people notice a weight gain when they gain muscle .. but the good news is that more muscle burns more calories, and if you watch what you eat, you will reduce fat. So that might explain what you are seeing .. and it sounds like good news to me! Congratulations.
