Ok...just friggin-re-diculous!!! I get on the scale this morning and I'm back up to a whopping 167. Sheesh...all in the matter of 3 days. Well, I'm fairly sure it's all water weight as my eating has been spot on. And I've been exercising all week....and not just "strolling through a park" type of exercise, but really intense interval training and weight lifting.


This is the toughest part of Atkins, facing the scale when the body is resisting. Eating on plan was never difficult for me as I actually enjoy meat, real butter, veggies, etc. It was very infrequent that I would crave anything sweet. My weaknesses were chips, onion rings, french fries, doritos, etc. Of course, these are in my past now and even with the discouragement of the scale moving in the most improper direction, I have no desire to return to the crispy, crumpled bag of bugles in the back of the convience store munchie aisle.

*sigh* I will have to say, though, that when I was on a low-fat, moderate carb diet, I didn't have fluctuations like this. It was usually a steady decline in the scale, no great "whooshes" or large "inflations"...just a steady downward trend that I became accustomed to. Does anyone else notice this difference? Is there a scientific reason for it?

Sodium in processed meats causes my fluctuations or sometimes a different type of sauce,etc. I give my body a 5 lb leeway especially during that time of the month.

Thanks for the tip 30x30. I do eat processed meat almost daily (lunch meat) with a bit of cheese to make a snack during the day. It has never affected me before and I've been drinking lots of water to combat retention as TOM is nearing. I think it's just a thing my body is deciding to do right now. It is disappointing, but not much to be done about it.

Depending on your exercise...it could be that you are building muscle, which weighs more than fat...in that case, it would be a good increase...do you take measurements?? That is a better indication than that darn scale!! Good luck and keep on going!!

You're welcome! I also find as we lose more weight the water weight fluctuates more noticeably like what you're seeing. Definitely keep an eye on it. You should be back on track within a week, I would say. But if you continue to gain a pound a day...it could be something else to address. This is super personal,,,but with the cheese etc, if your BMs are off...you might just need a fiber supplement and a laxative and might lose that weight REALLY quick ;)

Hi Talu. I hope that's the reason! It would be very awesome to get some ripples underneathe this flab, so when the flab is gone I'll be nicely cut. I haven't taken measurements. I may go buy some measuring tape here soon for just that purpose. I do have a body fat monitor that I use occasionally. I haven't noticed a change with the numbers there... :(

Have you thought of eating MIMs or adding flax to your diet? I have noticed that since I started eating a MIM every morning, I don't have that problem much any more. I have heard some people have the opposite happen, but it does have a nice amount of fiber. It may be because I use coconut oil in place of butter in the recipe.

Sierra....ahhh yes, Flax. I love flax, but...it doesn't quite do the trick for me. I don't know why and wish it would because there are some wonderful recipies that I've found on the internet that use flaxseed meal. Now MIMs, I've never heard of. What are those?

Really personal but I have to share. My hubby is also losing weight and he'll come running out of "his" bathroom to use the scale in "our" bathroom to see how much he just lost. Cracks me up every time.
