perks54's Journal, 22 September 2017

Wow, the world of the 250's. Let's see, the last time I was in this weight range was over 27 years ago. I simply can't remember it.

It looks like i will need to start experimenting with toning exercises and some fasting to make this body look good again. I want to be age appropriate but also "fit" if that is possible. So, I am researching and also looking at some strength training and interval training.

Actually, I do LCMF (Moderate Fat) - I haven't completely bought into this unlimited fat thing. But, there is no option for this.

Anyway, have a great weekend and I will be doing food experiments with pizza, maybe some new desserts and my continued search for bread-like substances :)

Sounds like a perfect weekend ahead. Fitness research and food enjoyment, what more could one ask? I'm tempted to make pizza again, but it's too soon for more dairy.

Perks.... Way to go!!!! Welcome and hope you don't stay there too long. I am a few pounds away from when I start using weights. As for unlimited fats, impossible to do. Getting to a certain fat ratio may be more important. My 2 cents. Congrats and keep me posted on your quest for bread-like substances.

I haven't bought into the LCHF/Keto yet either, but there are a lot of people on FatSecret that swear by it - it certainly works for a lot of them. I read recently that overweight people do very well with weights, because they have to move around a lot of weight to begin with - I'll see if I can find that report. Anyway, yes to weights, just make sure you are using good form, ESPECIALLY if you do lunges (yuck!). Good luck and keep us posted.

@TaurielFan, this is a pretty tame and open minded group of keto folks. Very supportive of variations. Pre-FS, I watched someone close to me reverse a t2d diagnosis through LC diet alone; others have reduced medications docs said they'd take for life. So anyone doing this bc it's right for them for now has my enthusiastic support and warmest wishes. Keto/LC-ers here are a visible minority, just stand out by focus on logging, posting pictures, and all the questions that come up during the learning curve.

Perks, what qualities do you like in a tortilla?
22 Sep 17 by member: T8U9
T8U9: Well, I currently use Trader Joes lo-Carb. They are okay but they have some ingredients I cannot pronounce which makes me a bit suspect. So low net crabs, thin, flexible and a little bit chewy. They don't have to be great because they are usually holding yummies. So, easy to make would be first on my list.

You need either fat/carbs/protein to get energy. Take away one, you have to replace with another or you're just gonna be exhausted and hungry. After a certain point (diff for everyone), too much protein turns into glucose/carbs in the body. LCHF is replacing carbs & excess protein (which is why keto is moderate protein) with fat. That stuff fills you up!!! When you eat enough fat, you get full and don't have the cravings for all that crappy food anymore. Just a thought. Check out the book Keto Clarity for more info via one man's story (started at 410 lbs) told in collaboration with several doctors and people in the field. There are some good keto bread and keto pizza dough recipes on the website h-t-t-p-Ruled-dot-Me (it's NOT a dot-com), if you're interested!

AbhStudios: Thanks for you rcomments . I have occasionally looked at Ruled - good stuff. Right now I am doing both lower carb and lower calorie so I can get by without ultra high fat. But I lose weight every week so I am okay. At some point I will have to crank up the fat.

If you don't need thick golden corn flavor and texture, just something resembling the function of those thin wheatflour ones...I might have something to put on my experiment list. Can't remember what yummies they get filled with; I'll need your ideas on that.

I haven't tried these; if they require as much treatment as konjac pasta and rice do to be palatable, it won't be a quick option: http://www.konjacfoods.com/product/16.htm
