Today was not the most effective workout.... I got to the gym and I was feeling good. I planned to walk a little bit on the treadmill and then go do my weights and come back for my run, since my knees have been a little sore first thing in the morning lately. My guess is because my joints aren't warmed up yet.... so I get on the treadmill and open up Facebook on my phone (gotta keep myself busy somehow) and there it was.... the article in our local paper written about my mom and her 2 separate battles with colon cancer.
March is colon cancer awareness month and since my mom is still in the recovery process of her second surgery (Jan 12th 2012), her doctor nominated her for the story. I knew they were doing it, she interviewed for it yesterday, but for some reason - be it, that it's my mom, that I know what she had to go through both times, that my daughter was also in the picture they took, or that I know that unless I take care of myself it could be me in her position some day - I found myself getting rather teary. As a matter of fact, I am even getting teary just writing this... Damn hormones. I blame my birth control, I never used to be like this. So needless to say, the treadmill only saw about 3/4 of a mile.
Then when I went to do my weights, the sweet lady that works the front desk came and started chatting with me. I am trying to get more involved with the regulars at the gym so I went with it. Plus, I will be doing bootcamp tonight, so I'll still get some exercise. I know next time, if I want a good work out, stay out of the main weight room.
I have a feeling today will be an emotional day. Hope everyone has a good day.

At least you were THERE! and not at home eating! Good work! Sorry to hear about your mom, I am know colon cancer very well in my family. Too bad the screening costs soooo much, without insurance, forget it! Hope your day went smoothly and your bootcamp is fun! I can't turn on my phone anymore when working out, it seems to distract me and mess me up. I just learned that last week! You go girl..
