@philrmcknight's Journal, 14 August 2017

Had a rough morning, something that was supposed to happen didn't, then something that shouldn't have happened didn't happen even though it's been happening for over a year, so I have to make alternate arrangements, a total of about 100 miles on the car in four hours, an angry and hungry spouse to top it off. So when the dust temporarily settles, angry hungry hangry wife wants reward food for such a stressful morning. Ugh, double meat cheeseburger basket with extra fries reward food. But I was strong in the face of temptation, I did not indulge in the hangry reward food, stuck with some smoked ribs leftover from this weekend. In the keto zone!

Thanks, brother. Over the last nine months or so I've let myself rationalize the cheats, today I stood tall and said, "NO!!!", felt great.

WONDERFUL CHOICE! It can be so hard...good for you!

Congrats on turning that around. The ribs would be very helpful for me not trade off for junk. So glad you are posting again!

I hope whatever prompted the nightmare drive is resolved. Well done on resisting the easy option but I guess realistically it's not easy when you know how crap it makes you feel. Take care!

well done Phil - nothing like the feeling of standing solid against craving junk food. you don't always feel like it at the time but a few hours later you feel like you have won the war :-)

Smoked ribs, yum! And an appeased spouse, also good. Quite a juggling feat you pulled off. Nice going!

Give me ribs over crappy fast food anytime! You got the deal.

I always turn to a pork butt or shoulder when times get tough! I don't smoke it, but seared off and well seasoned in a crock pot with a Hawaiian smokey rub, puts it all into perspective. Have a good day, Phil!

Great job Phil, I think it's Jenibean who says we shouldn't reward ourselves with food we aren't dogs and she's not wrong.

We've all had those emotional eating situations. I'm not always strong, especially when the spouse ends up pulling in for the fast food. Good for you for sticking to your healthier option!

Thanks, everyone. I've really let the discipline slide over the last few months, but it's been spread out enough to contain any damage. It's not a diet, it's a change of habit!

Good job with the discipline! I feel I allow myself to get sucked into bad food abyss since that is primarily what my husband eats (pizza and cheeseburgers are his two food groups). Since getting married to him 13 years ago I have gained at least 40 pounds...I am making conscious decisions now as to if I choose to eat poorly with him or not...I wish I would have done that years ago. Changes in habits need to be changed...eating but exercise and mindset as well. Thank you for sharing your struggle and win against the pitfall.

Way to stick it out, Phil. My fave used to be the double quarter pounder with cheese. I inhaled the stupid things. I had one about 3 years ago. Or rather I should say, I bought one. I took my first bight and looked at in in disgust. I think I ate half of it and pitched the rest. Made me wonder what I had been thinking. You didn't miss anything.

Good job! Life is always going to be laughing at those best laid plans, but you were able to respond to it beautifully. :)

The wife was considering Chinese food this morning, I had some canned tuna. Resisting is getting easier, but it sure reminds me how strong I had to be to get the weight off to begin with, every day is a potential eating explosion in my house!

Some days are like that. Just make the best choices you can for you.

Wish I could wave a magic wand and transform everyone's home into a temptation-free zone. It's challenging enough to coordinate other aspects of joint sourcing and sharing kitchen space. Am impressed with strength of everyone who sticks to their W.o.E. despite off-ramps everywhere.
