I am glad you were able to enjoy yourself. At the same time, it is a shame your parents did not take your diet into consideration. However, I too have been there .... When I first started on my weightloss journey, I went over to my dad's for a family cookout. He told me he was going to make hamburgers. I asked him if he could get me ground turkey or ultra lean beef rather than the traditional, yet sooo tasty, ground chuck/round mixture he normally used. He said those other meats did not make a proper hamburger (he has spent decades perfecting the his chargrilled burger) so no. When we got there Dad asked me how many burgers I wanted. I said none for me. I will just make a salad with the burger condiments. It was only then that he realized I was actually serious about weight loss. He had some chicken breasts in the fridge for another meal and asked if I would eat grilled chicken. Since then, especially since he has seen my weight fall, whenever we have gone over he has told me what he was fixing and asked if I needed anything different. Our parents are used to US being kids and telling us, "You will eat what was prepared for you and be grateful for the food or go hungry." (Something I have to tell MY kids now since they HATE healthy food). All it took, however, was that one "I would love to, but I CAN NOT eat this," for that to change. Next time you may want to say, "I love your cooking mom, but my health is more important than your meatloaf." Hang in there and run an extra mile to work off that cake!
