I'm struggling... Over a month ago the doctor discontinued blood pressure medication he told me I most properly be on for the rest of my life, but since losing a lot of weight my blood pressure is now at safe levels. Also my councillor for diabetes told me at my last visit around the same time informed me there was no need to visit her anymore cause months of documenting my daily blood count my sugar levels are now reading at a safe level, but she said that doesn't mean I don't have diabetes any more it just means I have it under control and still to take medication once a day which is a relatively low dose compared to others I know on the same meds.
So here my problem... since I hearing all this wonderful news I've had a bad case of the flu and its been hard to kick it to the curb and I don't have the energy anymore to do my daily work-outs or go for my daily bike rides. I also been eating in excess feeling damn sorry for myself I feel its snow balling, my metabolism level is practically non existent ... It's gotten so bad I'm afraid to get on the scales cause I know its gonna be bad :(. There is a big gap in my food journal where I couldn't be bother cause I know the results would be bad but a couple days ago I forced myself to try and pick up my game and at least keep account of what I'm stoving in my mouth even if at the end of the day its bad news & yesterday I pushed myself to get outside and go for a bike ride and do a lite work-out when I got back... it was a start but I feel I'm struggling... :( just thought I'd put that out there... Quite therapeutic actually :)

We all have those periods of when everything gets on top of us. Just take it day by day. Don't let the 'big picture' get on top of yo and soon the good days will out number the bad until you're through the rough patch. Whatever you do, don't throw in the towel.

We all fall off the wagon at some time, but the key is to get back on the wagon... Key your eye on the big picture (or the prize if you prefer). I'm kinda in the same boat as you with the meds, but I haven't lost the weight yet. I was unable to work for 5 months due to an injury but am back at work now and have noticed the kilos falling off slowly. My doctor keeps telling me that if I lose the weight (10% of my body weight he said) I can go off most of my medications. We'll see if he's right when I lose the weight. Anyway, I digress. Keep up the good work mate. The fact that you lost the weight and kept it off is something to be proud of, and just because you have been sick is no reason to beat yourself up. You'll get there again, have faith in yourself. Cheers!

Hey Senitao, just reflect on the journey it took to get you down to your goal weight and off the meds. Flus and colds are going to happen - they are set backs not knock downs. As you continue to let things slide you will end up in a place which will make it WAY harder to get back to where you are now. Which is in a great place health wise. It's is totally worth fighting for mate. Kia Kaha as we say in NZ :)

We all fall off the wagon for sure! May I suggest cutting out all wheat, eggs and dairy completely. Especially if you have diabetes. Yes no more bread. The combination of these gives me bad flu symptoms. To get back on track i suggest megadosing vitamin C crystals. take 4g with a glass of water every 4 hours. Not the cheap crap you get from the supermarket. Go to iherb and order some. All the best for your recovery and getting back on track.

I can sympathise with you. Even when I have a bad eat everything weekend I write in my fatsecret journal about all the things I have eaten and also check the calorie counter to shock myself into snapping out of it for my health sake. Does it work? Most times it does. But we really need to stick it out. We are all on this journey and I'm loving it. I have created Fat Secret friends, Keep going. Saloon

Therein lies the balance of life. No sooner you get reach your goal then something appears to throw you of course. I'm glad you put it out there because we all go through it. My best way of dealing with it is to acknowledge my struggle and then it didn't seem to matter that much any more. My focus on it lessened and I slowly regained my momentum. Momentum only comes after you start something. All the best.

Hi Annemieke55 .. Diabetes 2... In my case self inflicted I'm afraid. Bad eating habits which in turn I became morbidly obese, I knew I was trampling on thin ice with every bite especially with my family history Grandparents, Parents their siblings, my elder siblings, cousins I knew I was playing Russian Roulette it was only a matter of time before it was me, and before I was diagnosed I kinda knew cause I grew up surrounded by it ...

I have read a lot about the Ketogenic diet, it actually reverses Type 2 Diabetes.. It also helps with many other ailments, Ketogenic wipes out all sugar and most carbs.

That's a really strict diet ... is it when your body goes into a state of ketoses? when I first began I cut out all starch I went gluten free & no sugar in any form added to meals I cooked or fluids for 18months its only recently I've had a couple sandwiches made with white bread or toast still done add sugar to anything... I found in those months my body was in some form of ketoses that and the work-outs I was doing contributed to the 60kg I lost so far...

look into 5/2 diet easy and it works.

You know what to do and how to do it. If that way of eating worked for you, then I'd go back to that way of eating. I hope it reverses your diabetes too. That would be fantastic. Good on you for being so honest and putting yourself our there.
