It's hard but not impossible. 50 carbs a meal is actually a lot, some folks don't eat 50 carbs a day. Restricting carbs is just one of many ways to lose weight you just need to find the method that works for you. I lost my weight by eating less, eating better, and increasing my physical activities. I didn't cut out any foods I just ate less of the bad foods when I had them. Instead of 3 or 4 slices of pizza I'd eat 1 or 2 and add a healthy salad. Get a food scale and weigh your food, I found out my idea of 4 ounces meat was much larger than what 4 ounces really is. Keeping track of what you eat accurately is a wonderful tool. It can be a pain sometimes but it really only adds a few seconds of effort each meal and after a while you can eyeball it more accurately.

I have low-carbed before and kept to less than 10 per day. You subtract the fiber grams from the total carb count, just FYI. Ultimately, I like what Ofdwolf has to say, because that's much more sustainable long-term. I have had some recent problems with my gallbladder, so I'm eating fairly low fat and watching my total calories. I'm eating a lot of carbohydrate, adequate protein, very little fat, and I lost 13 pounds in June (and two more so far in July). I feel better when I eat this way than I do when I eat low carb...but I do miss cheese! ;)
