Missychick21's Journal, 19 February 2012

Tomorrow is my daughter's 5th birthday and also my grandfather's funeral... Having her party today and I do not care about sticking to plan. I will be eating cake and probably ice cream too. I am aware that going off plan is only destructive to myself but right now I have other things to worry about. I guess a positive note is I haven't been on plan all week and didn't gain or lose anything.

A friend who has lost 48 pounds on Atkins advocates that going off plan for a short time often refreshes the fat loss cycle. I am not sure that this is sound advice but I believe in the circumstances that face you currently, you should not worry about WOE. I am sure your daughter will be thrilled to have Mommy participate in her birthday celebration. After all the stressors of the next few days are over, you will have plenty of time to get back on track. I will be thinking of you tomorrow...enjoy today.

Thank you, I'm down almost 32 pounds so I don't think I'm doing too bad so far. I know I will get motivated again sometime...just not sure when.

There is only so much one can handle at a time. You have important family obligations - Family comes first right now.

I just really wish I had family here or if I could be at his funeral. I live about 8 hours away and have to money to get there. I hate having to miss everything after what it took to be a part of my father's side of my family again.

I'm so sorry to hear that you can't make it to the funeral-- that's got to be hard. Sometimes weightloss has to take a back burner to other things. It's good you get to celebrate your little girl tomorrow- I hope the birthday party goes well.

I am so sorry that you are unable to make the funeral. Life is full of stress. I have to disagree that this is a time to put your weight loss goal on hold. We need to find other ways to cope with stress and celebrations rather than reaching for the foods that brought us to this site to begin with. This site is to lend support to keep you on track - not to agree that it is okay to make poor choices when life gets hard. You can do this! Stay on track and be strong.

I would encourage you to keep at it too! It sounds like you have a tremendous amount of stress right now, but be wary that it does not undo all your hard work! You are very important , make sure you are taking care of yourself at this difficult time. Often us mommys take care of everyone else and sabotage our efforts. You can do this!!!!!!! It sounds like you have done beautifully so far! For my kids birthdays, I do have cake as well, I find that after the fist couple of bites I am eating just to eat, and not because of the aste. I serve 2 bites of cake for myself and eat it really slow and savor it. There are a few occasions a year that are worth a little indulgence and I think kid birthdays totally quallify! :)

I appreciate everyone's advice. I am going to take things one day at a time. If I can manage to get myself back on track then great, if not I refuse to beat myself up about it. My own birthday is in 2 weeks, I don't plan to get extra cake or anything but I will probably have leftovers of my daughters. February is a very hard month for me, I will do what I can for myself but I can't guarantee success right away or anytime soon...
