Happy Wednesday evening, buddies!
That day when a client brings you 3 huge bags of freshly picked, homegrown veggies... She lives in an exclusive gated community that has a huge community garden. She stopped between rain showers and picked a bunch of goodies for me. Eggplants, cucumbers, zucchini, yellow and pattipan squashes, green tomatoes, green peppers, banana peppers and jalapeños. THREE grocery bags full!
Dinner tonight was cucumber and onion salad with apple cider vinegar, garlic and Italian seasoning (YUM!), and a quondam Filipino pork dish with onions, banana peppers, and yellow squash in a coconut milk/fish sauce/ soy sauce...err...sauce. :D It was AMAZING! Inspiration via Mark Wiens on YouTube.
Last night was weird. I almost fell asleep at the keyboard, so I was in bed, sawing logs by 8 PM. Woke up at 12:45 AM, and knew I wouldn't get back to sleep. Stayed up until almost 10 AM, when the thunder started. Thank goodness I didn't have anybody booked at work for today! I went back to bed, and had a lucid dream where it felt like I was awake, but I was dreaming about a bizarre family reunion with people I didn't know. I'm pretty sure it has to do with my upcoming visit to my sister's place next week. We haven't been close most of our adult years, mostly for reasons of geography, but also because we are polar opposites in philosophy, temperament, and just about everything else. At any rate, I got up again around 12:45 PM, did some laundry, played with kitties, and watched it rain for most of the day.
It's fascinating watching the slow-motion train wreck that is the implosion of the Trump administration. I've gotten hooked on watching the news. :/
My heart and thoughts are with my buddies in the UK. #StandWithManchester
Love,
~Kes

I agree with the slow motion train wreck; I can't keep my eyes off it, until it makes me feel ill. 24 million losing health care and 800 billion in tax cuts for the rich. It's a good thing I'm getting healthier, because I'll probably be one of those 24 million.

@Erika, I've never had health insurance. Insurance is the reason for the outrageous cost of medicine in this country. I take care of my own health through Naturopathic medicine, diet and meditation. Get rid of "health" insurance, and the dynamic changes.

Hey - you have kitties? I don't think I knew that...what kind?

I wish you people would keep politics out. Not needed here for your weight loss.

Oh you're so lucky, Kes, getting all those home grown veggies! Yes, I'm sure the dream was all about the visit to your sister. I hope you will enjoy meeting up with her again, even though you are so unlike each other. My boys do not socialise much with each other either as they are also polar opposites in everything, so I know what you mean. My heart breaks for the people involved in the Manchester bombing. This world could be such a beautiful place for everybody.

@HCB, I have 2 kitties, both boys. One is an elegant Russian Blue, the other is a stocky, solid black American short hair. @Fred, one line in a journal upsets you? Truth hurts...

@Doobrie, I have the sweetest clients! They are very generous to me, and my dehydrator is going to be working overtime this week. One of the zucchini (courgettes) she gave me is HUGE. I think I'm going to make parmesan crisps with it.

Ms Kes, informative and entertaining is Seth Myers "A Closer Look" which you can always catch clips on YouTube the next morning. And fantastic about the free veggies!!! I sat with a couple of potatoes and onions last night, finally cubing them, tossing them in olive and curry seasoning, baking them for an hour, then topping with salt & pepper and cumin seeds and a mango chutney I made on Sunday. So many options!

@Sss, that's what's gotten me watching live streams of news. I watch Seth, John Oliver, Corbet, and a couple of other "late night" hosts on YouTube. I only have basic cable, and haven't had my TV on for more than 3 months, so the late night hosts and the live streams are where I get informed.

And for pure joy and entertainment, don't forget about Saturday Night Live. Sadly, they're done until the Fall. Melissa McCarthy is just hysterical as press secretary. I live in a blue state that borders Mexico, and while this is about politics, it has a lot to do with health care too, which will have effect on the members that suffer from diabetes and heart disease --and everything else!

Most insurance companies consider obesity a pre-existing condition. We're all in for a rough ride. Even a history of it, once resolved, still counts. I was denied life insurance for that reason.
