~The Accidental 1000 calorie day~ Some Caloric corrections ~ Kicking Level 15's butt!

Well, yesterday I stumbled into a 1000 calorie day. Technically, it was 1059, but feel free to round to 1,100. I always do since stats say we "under report" our calories. Stumbling into a 1000 calorie day was not intentional by any means! But, it brings us some good questions about appetite and how to approach those moments when one is NOT technically hungry.

My stomach usually starts to growl between 10:00 a.m. and 10:30. My "go too" mid-morning snacks are yogurt (preferably, greek), and a Kashi Granola Bar. Take those 2 items out and my caloric intake falls to 1059. But, the truth is I simply wasn't hungry. My stomach didn't even appear to want to growl until lunch and I ate my daily salad.

I'm not an advocate of ingesting 1059 calories a day because this girl's tissues and organs need nutrients to function. And, since I do a fairly intense workout when I get home, I need the energy. But, I also don't resonate with "force feeding" either. That can set up negative precedents, especially for a girl attempting to readjust her perspective of appropriate portion sizes. So, given the option between force feeding for energy when not hungry, and simply skipping the snack, I opt for skipping.

I talked about this with my mother last night after working out and we both concur, if there's no appetite or actual hunger for something, then don't eat. Besides, it ends up balancing out in the end. Today is not a splurge day since we had it on Tuesday, but it is "Beer Thursday" at work. I always allot for those calories, but now I have a few more calorie bucks in my bank since I didn't eat as much yesterday.

That being stated, I also had to do some caloric corrections yesterday. I noticed daily caloric average was coming up in the 1700's. I was dumbfounded because my daily calories are often in the 1500's since eliminating the protein shakes. I expect splurge days will bring it up to the 1600's, but at 1600 calories per day, I'm still okay for a 1 lb/week loss, which fine. I also under report my exercise calories. I don't report desk work/sitting/rest/house cleaning/etc. I only report the exercise attached to workouts and time spent walking. FS automatically adds caloric burn for sleep. In addition, I take 23% off caloric burn totals to account for error just to ensure I'm not overestimating what I burn in a day!

Turns out the issue was coffee! LOL. I only drink 1 cup of coffee a day with cream and sugar. However, on Fridays I will often drink another cup before a work out. I only do that on Fridays, but of course FS saved the calories for 2 cups under recently eaten. As a result, I was entering 2 cups of coffee when in reality I have only been drinking one. Two cups of coffee with cream and sugar is not a big deal 1 day a week, but listed everyday over a month or week, it really adds up! I made the corrections and my daily average is now down to the 1600's, which is reasonable and accurate!

And, lastly I kicked level 15's butt on the recumbent bike and rode for a full 20 minutes with an additional 10 minutes for warm up and cool down. Woohoo! Of course, this a.m., my muscles can attest to the fact that Level 15 kicked my butt. But, it feels good. 15 is often the level many fitness trainers will use on a recumbent bike to get an optimum workout for fat burning, so getting this far makes me feel I'm on the right track regarding tone and conditioning!

Have a Happy Thursday, all!

I quit the cream and sugar and went to black. Saved a ton of calories since I have a terrible coffee habit. Love the averaging calories, that's what I did to lose weight and now to maintain.

I wish my taste buds were able to handle black wholefoodnut, but they just don't. But, because I have a history with anxiety, I genuinely watch how much of any stimulant I take. Even my 1 cup is sipped throughout the day and then I slam the rest right before I leave work so I can have a little boost for the workouts. I think that's why it's not so challenging for me to stay away from sugar. The first time I was diagnosed with anxiety and panic attacks, the doctor told me to cut out all sugar and caffeine, that included soda, and that's exactly what I did. I still don't drink soda, and it's only been in the past year I started drinking coffee again, and very carefully. But ya know, there's no gettin' through these workout with out little bit of caffeine! LOL

Unsweetened Almond or Coconut milk has been my "creamer" for some time now. No added sugar in my coffee since 1988. It's already in everything. You really have to look for the Unsweetened things which will already have natural sugars in them

jeannieselby - we do have unsweetened almond milk in the fridge, if I ever feel compelled to cut the sugar and cream, I'll have to give it a try!

One cup is commendable!! I go through at least a 8 cup pot every day. Used to have panic attacks, don't any longer as I made peace with the demons that were causing them. It was a hard mental battle though they do re-surface in some situations, I can get them under control.

Wholefoodnut - I think its commendable that you have made peace with the demons that contribute to your panic attacks. I'm getting there, farther than I've ever been. It's a comfort for me to know you've come that far...and, yes it resurfaces on occasion for me too.
