ShyGuy's Journal, 08 April 2017

Well, it's Soup-er Saturday, and I did make the Creamy Broccoli & Chicken Soup that I wrote about yesterday. I garnished it with some cherrywood smoked bacon and, as expected, it turned out very tasty. I only made enough for two servings, and could have eaten both in one sitting, but I'm saving the rest to eat for lunch tomorrow. Sometimes I amaze myself! :-) My only regret in making this today, is that I didn't make twice as much so I could be eating off of it for a few days.

It's amazing to me how amazingly creative people are with their cooking and allow it to be an outlet and challenge for them. I have always loved cooking and making meals for other people to enjoy, so I'm finding it fun to be around so many other people who also like to experiment with food that is more nutritious and healthy!

Thanks. Being creative with my cooking is how I stay on track, with my low carb lifestyle, and enables me to not worry about the things I can't eat, so there's always something delicious to look forward to; like the rest of the soup I made yesterday, for dinner, is today's lunch. :-)

I tend to do the same. Make something for the first time and I'm cautious, because what if it's yucky and then I waste it or drudge through something not tasty in order not to waste it. Now that you know it's good, make a bigger recipe next time!

You're right; on the rare occasion that I blow it, and it has happened, I've had to, painfully, eat my way though it so as not to waste the food. I will be making a bigger batch of the soup the next time. However, next on my agenda, I'll be making a Creamy Cauliflower Soup, with three kinds of Cheese, Broccoli Florets, and Applewood Smoked Bacon.

I may be awful, but life is too short. Depending on the cost of the ingredients, if the results are tasteless enough they go down the drain. I spent too many years with a garbage can mentality of not "wasting" food. I'm not that poor right now, and if I was, I wouldn't be experimenting. It's taken me too much psychological trauma to break that mentality and I still have that ingrained hatred of "wasting food." Leftover from parents who went hungry during the Depression and WWII.

Don't get me wrong, I've thrown away my share of bad results too, but sometimes it was a small mistake, and thus still edible. However, I thank God, that most of my experiments turn out great, so that I rarely have to dump anything.
