John10251's Journal, 22 March 2017

At the risk of losing a few Buddies, I have a comment about the new trend to post pictures of meals in the daily news feed. Please don't get me wrong, I enjoy most of the pictures of the pretty plates. I get some fantastic meal ideas from them myself. I'm not asking anyone to stop posting pictures of the wonderful meals. Please keep them coming...

As many of my Buddies have pointed out, they do take up a lot of screen space. What has come to annoy me is that some posters do not extend the courtesy of describing what they are posting. That leaves other readers with no other choice than to guess what they are posting. I consider that unfair and a infringement on the rights of others. Please post all the pictures you want, use all the screen space you need but please describe what foods you are posting. It would be helpful to everyone. Thanks...

I think some people do it to remind them of what they have eaten opposed to sharing with everyone. Maybe they should set their journal to private? Just a thought!

I have also noticed that some of the offenders do not respond when asked to describe what they have posted days later...

John, you are so polite and fluent with your words. I just find it annoying as he!! when I can't tell what something is, lol!!!

FatSecret is encouraging users to photograph food as part of a new project. See the blog link at the bottom of this web page in a browser. The app on my phone has a separate photo album section that instructs me to take photos of my meals so FatSecret can try to identify the foods to make it easier to add them to the food diary. Offenders aren't really offenders--they're doing exactly what the FS app is asking them to do. They might not follow the journal feeds at all or have any idea others are scrutinizing their meals. I don't like it either, but this is the direction FatSecret has chosen.

I agree, Fatsecret has made it easier to post pictures. I don't think that the intended purpose is to broaden the food data base. I believe it's their users who add to and update the food data base. I don't think it's the intended direction Fatsecret has chosen. I think it's our fellow users...

It is true if you click on the "Blog" function at the bottom you can go to FatSecret Facebook page and see what they are up to now and make a comment if you wish

Opps, I apologize to everyone and anyone I may have offended. Thanks for setting me straight. I didn't have a clue. I'm disappointed that Fatsecret didn't communicate better...

John, you're the least offensive person here! We love you! You're our blue line hero role model!

I agree that it's fs mew direction for their phone app which I use. But the poster has an option of whether to share with the "community" or not at the tome they take the picture and make comments on the picture, so I like John, find it irritating when they don't. It means that they are willy-nilly saying yes to sharing, taking a picture, not commenting and know nothing about the community because they probably haven't scrolled that far down the phone app menu. But fs could make this better by posting the food entries the person tags the picture with when they add it to their meal. I would find it convenient to have that info shared or be able to click on the picture and get it. Seems like a no brainer to me.

John, you weren't offensive at all. You spoke your mind and you were very polite about it. And I agree with you; I wish they would post what it is. :-) ~ Andi

Yup, agree with you-if they have no description or state the reason for the pic-it's worthless.
