rwaller7483's Journal, 10 March 2017

On the late shift today. Went out to pick up a couple of things, including a pizza. Was gonna have that before work, but I've somehow found the will power to shove it in the freezer, so I'm having soup and a ciabatta instead. This is a bigger deal than it should be to me! It'll be an impressive day when I can walk past a pizza without wanting one. Not gonna torture myself or owt, can't imagine I'd fair too well if I tried to test myself by standing in the pizza aisle and staring for 10 minutes and trying to walk away... Interesting all the associations our brains make. I'm glad I've never been a smoker, I'd have a hell of a time trying to quit.

That's a good bit of will power you've shown there. Maybe it shouldn't be a big deal but it is so there's nothing wrong with celebrating it. Have a good weekend!

Hiya! I know for awhile it may be best to resist all pizza temptations but I wanted to offer a couple of ideas for when you DO really want one - this is I do so that I can keep enjoying them even with my small calorie "budget" each day. We have a chain here in Finland, "Kotipizza", which not only gives all the nutritional info for a pizza but also you can customize them to make one that suits the calorie or protein needs or what-have-you. So my first tip - find a place that provides that info. Second tip is perhaps an obvious one - go for thin crusts, and third (and maybe biggest one) - I ask for "half cheese" on mine. It shaves about 250 cals off what they'd normally be. For meat, I just avoid the old greasy favourites and get something leaner (they have lean ham but also chicken, tuna, even their beef isn't too high, and we have smoked reindeer! But you get the idea, depending on what's available locally. With these tips I manage to get a nice pizza for about 780-840 calories, the whole thing - if I took the same pizza and got full cheese and pepperoni, it would skyrocket over 1300 and even worse if you add dips, those add hundreds of calories for a tiny, processed blob. Then don't waste calories on a drink - grab a diet soda or water. Those little changes actually can make a huge difference....literally cut the caloric total in half of what it could be. You get pizza, WITHOUT breaking the caloric limits - win win!

Phooka, thanks. It's a struggle to accept that it doesn't matter how naturally something might come to others, it's still an achievement. Suppose there can be a bit of a competitive edge to weight and certainly exercise, but I'm not good at dealing with it. That said, just about every time I cycle to work I end up getting overtaken by someone on a 2 grand bike, head to toe in lycra. It used to bother me a lot more than it does now. Likewise, I overtake people too but I'm not going to take any glory in it as I'm sure there's a decent chance that the person I'm overtaken feels like I did. Andrea, breaks are the worst aren't they?! I mean, they're great but who celebrates soberly with a salad... Touch wood, besides my own, I don't have any birthday nights out till summer now.. I tend to avoid the scales for a while after these things, pick a number that I think I am and invariably I'm not as bad as I think. Probably the pessimist in me.. Thanks for the good weekend wishes anyway, going to work in a bit though. Despite what Jeremy Hunt says, there is 24/7 emergency care in the NHS... Real Gone Girl, heya again. Most the pizza I do eat is shop bought which does have all the nutritional (or lack of!) information on it. They're quite tricky though, it's only subtle... they'll list the calories etc by either 1/4 or 1/2 a pizza. I dunno, they've probably done some serious market research into it, maybe people are less inclined to buy a pizza that says 1200kcal on the box, but if it says 300kcal per quarter pizza it doesn't seem so bad, even if you are gonna eat the whole thing.. I might start doing home made pizzas, I sometimes eat reduced fat cheeses anyway and I know some continental cheeses are less fat than cheddar etc.. I don't know if you'll have tried it, but I've heard of people using cauliflower to make a base out of? Not sure how well that'd work, but might give it a go. You've got me thinking about diet drinks too, not sure if they're even worth recording on here but I have done today. I don't know if I want to know what's in these things in place of sugar.. Good for cleaning toilets at least.
