maeday42's Journal, 20 February 2017

For some reason today, I want to binge. I had lunch, but I want more - I guess I'm bored. No work today, which I forgot, so I went crazy as I usually do to get things done on the weekend. House is clean, laundry done, a bunch of meals in the freezer. I've exercised and now I don't know what to do with myself, I haven't had "free time" in forever. So I thought I'd catch up on some stuff I have on the DVR, I have a LOT of shows on the DVR. As I sat there watching TV, all I want to do is eat. I never realized that was a trigger for me. It's like reading, I want to munch on stuff when I read. So, I got up and came down to the computer, I thought writing this on and searching for some "healthy snack" ideas would distract me. I think it's working. :-)

^ Strange response. Anywho, bored eating is very real. The weekends get me because I sit at home with free time on my hands and food readily available. If you find a satisfying, low-cal, good snack, please do share. I try to drink water... lots and lots of water. Also, I will chew gum sometimes. It's hard to eat when you're chewing gum.

Bored eating, I have the exact same problem; I have to keep reminding myself that food is not entertainment. Recognizing it is a big step towards overcoming it. Stay strong!

Boredom and restlessness can be issues for me as well. Good for you in identifying the emotion and dealing with it!!!

okthen78 - you can just bite me! If I were perfect, like apparently you are, I wouldn't be on a site like this - oh wait you are on a site like this too so apparently you've got some issues with your weight. I'm constantly taking care of people, working, cleaning, cooking, exercising, the list goes on an on. So, when I have very that very rare down time - yeah I get bored. I feel like I should be doing something - oh wait I see your a man, so I get it now. Just for your information, I ate some peanuts, I even counted them out. You have no idea who I am or what I've been through, you have no right to judge me.

I missed what okthen78 said and that's probably a good thing. Way to go though! Have you tried Whisps or any of the other cheese crisps? They take cheese, bake it and somehow puff it. They are low carb and you can mini binge on some. A whole bag (2 servings) is 2 to 3 carbs. I like the trader joes' brand. They are somewhat like crackers if you are missing that crispy, crunchy snack.

Hi Maeday42, I can only imagine what ok said, its the kind of thing he usually says. Nice that we can delete comments when they are in our journals, just don't let it get under your skin or leave the site. There are so many more uplifting, supportive folks here. We value your input :) Figuring out what triggers you is huge, a great step in this battle we wage.

I know it is too late for today's problem, but in the future have some low calorie healthy snacks. Keep up the good work.

No I haven't, but thanks for that tip. I'll look for them the next time I go.

I find that I crave that crunch when I'm bored. Thanks for the tip on the Whisps!

My go-to is celery with ANYTHING like feta cheese, sour cream, a very light touch of peanut butter. But I end up mostly going after the celery. Plenty of crunch, I can get a satisfying super full tummy, and no harm done! I think I crave celery now when I'm low on sodium.
