Kolinka's Journal, 11 January 2012

Trying to stay positive and rationalize the 4 lb gain that I am avoiding logging on here. This weekend there were a couple days of calorie lapses, but between housework and lawn work I got a good bit of exercise in. Last night I did 45 minutes at a moderate pace on the elliptical. I think I might switch it up between 30 minutes of fast/interval work and 45-55 minutes of moderate consistent movement until I can consistently do 45-55 minutes of fast/interval. It felt good to be able to go for so long. I've been doing the elliptical while we play videogames so that my mind stays actively involved in something other than wanting to get off the machine.

I just logged on and saw this journal entry . . . I think I know the struggle you're talking about when you say that you're trying to stay positive when the scale said "you've been bad". The scale shows you numbers and everyone says numbers don't lie. I always try to remember that the numbers may not lie, but neither do they tell the whole story, and that my body does things that I never know about. Maybe that 4 pounds is your body's way of hanging on to more water because of al the great exercise you did yesterday. I like to think of my body yelling ... "hey, I'm thirsty and I'm not giving up these extra pounds until I'm feeling less crabby aboout it!" I looked at your profile and what I saw was a 12 pound weight loss since you started before the holidays. That's impressive because most people gain 5-10 pounds between Thanksgiving and New Year's.

Thanks, I was quite pleased with myself for the 12 lbs over the holidays. I have faith that this is only a temporary setback. I've had ~60 oz of water already today and will have another 50 or so before the end of the day. I'm hoping that will make an impact. I've certainly been to the bathroom enough for it to have.
