GStrathman's Journal, 27 January 2017

My diet is for life change and health more than weight loss although I do have some pounds I would like to loose. 2016 was particularly challenging as I lost my biological father as well as my adopted father. It seems we spent most of our time helping others and neglecting ourselves. Not badly but enough to show in blood work. So we have decided to eat as close to the Mediterranean diet as we can. We find the more plant based we eat the better we feel. We have cut down on pork and beef while upping our fish and veggie intake.

Our journey was inspired several years ago after watching the documentary Food Matters. You can find it on Netfix if you are interested.

Recently we watched 2 other documentaries Sick, Fat, & Nearly Dead and Sick, Fat, & Nearly Dead 2. Inspirational as well as a good guide. On the diet we are choosing to follow we are challenged to get in enough fruits and veggies so we make smoothies. We choose smoothies instead of juicing to retain the beneficial fiber we so lack in our American diets. They always feel like a treat to me.

So, that is a little about where I stand in this journey. So far what I miss most is my Amish air cooked popcorn with butter.
