JockoT's Journal, 18 January 2017

Since my last weigh in I have eaten an average of nearly 2900 Kcals per day. And I haven't put on any weight. I haven't lost any, but that is possibly for the future. I have dramatically reduced my sugar intake except for fresh fruit, I have upped my fibre intake, I have now stopped Diet Coke and Irn Bru Extra and I am taking an Apple Cider Vinegar tablet with breakfast. I still haven't got a good grip on refined Carbs yet, but I am heading that way.
I am eating 3 meals a day. Breakfast is any time between 6 am and 9 am, Lunch is around noon and Dinner is at 4:30 pm. I am eating nothing between meals.
I don't feel hungry, I have plenty energy and I am not feeling cold. If I manage to lose more weight, great, but if not I would happily live like this.
More to follow!

I am considering having a go at fasting, every second day, to see how I get on with that.

Sounds like you've found the kind of healthy diet which suits you and you've been quite active too. The thing I can't understand is the level of calories. How is it that you can have 2900 calories and do fine and I'm finding I'm limited to 1300 kcals per day or I don't show any loss? I understand that there's a difference between men and women and also that it depends on activity level, but even so it seems quite a difference. I met up with a friend recently and she said she's about the same as me - 1300 kcals is the level at which she begins losing weight? How much walking and other activity do you think you are doing Jocko? Maybe that is the difference.

Hi Jocko- sounds like you have found a manageable routine that is working for you. Well done- long may it continue.

Judy. I average about 4000 steps a day, occasionally more and regularly less. I don't exercise as such, driving almost everywhere. In the summer I like to get out for the odd cycle, but only about 4 or 5 miles, and only a couple of times a week, in a good week! My hobbies are reading, playing Xbox and surfing the net. Hardly high impact. I now believe that controlling Insulin and Insulin Resistance is the key, not the amount of calories, per se. I believe that the body will only consume the calories it needs and that Insulin Resistance sets that level. This is what I am trying to do now, and I will share my experiences, and results (good or bad), here, for all to see.

Hi Jocko, did I read correctly that you are consuming 2900 calories a day and are expecting to possibly lose weight? How do you do that? I am struggling to lose - barely holding even in fact - on around 1000 calories a day. Marvelous progress that you've made. Very inspiring!

I have become a follower of Dr Jason Fung and believe that it is not the calories that you eat but the Insulin, or more precisely, the Insulin Resistance, that your body produces, that causes obesity. For my weight and lifestyle, my FS RDI, to maintain my current weight, is 2800. I normally eat a bit less than that, but a couple of BAD days pushed the average up. What I have done to reduce my Insulin resistance is to avoid sugar, allow enough time between meals for my Insulin level to recover, increase my Fibre intake and take a daily dose of Apple Cider Vinegar. All are known to reduce or offset Insulin levels. Mind you, it is early days. I may get on the scales Friday, and find I'm up a few pounds. Starting this weekend, I am going to give fasting every second day, a go.

We have the same strategy Jocko as to monitoring our intake and expenditures...I probably consume too much sugar and carbs :( Well done on your efforts to date!!
