Hermiones Mom's Journal, 11 January 2017

I bet it takes me a week to get my calories and carbs back under control. I wandered very far off the path this holiday season, and it's going to take some effort to get focused again. One good thing: I'm feeling very pressed financially this month because it's car insurance time, plus the furkids have to go for physicals followed by dental, and I'm still trying to dig myself out from a pile of medical bills from the past six months. As a result, I am being very disciplined about eating out of the freezer and not buying additional proteins. I am being as careful as possible about buying produce also. This is a challenge because the low-FODMAP regime means there's a very narrow range of fruits and veggies I can eat, so I have to give myself some budget-leeway and sometimes spend a little extra for produce. This week, grapefruit and oranges were on sale, so I stocked up, and blueberries weren't too bad either, so I bought those. I splurged on some strawberries. I have some zucchini, but I need some additional veggies, so I'll drop by Whole Foods tomorrow for some frozen peas and maybe some green beans. I've also been wanting to make some cole slaw, so I'll look for some cabbage. I like doing cole slaw or cucumber salad because they last several days and I find they replace carbs quite nicely. Everybody really need to help me get back on track.

It took two or three attempts during the holidays to go back to LCHF. I finally decided to set a date and take it day by day. Today is day 9 and I am determined to stick with it. First week -6 lbs. I started doing some stretching exercises to get some of the rust out of my joints before they totally freeze up :) Once the mind is made up, the rest seems to fall in line. Good Luck and don't overwhelm yourself!

Thanks for the encouragement mgussmann. The other problem is that my activity was so limited while I rehabbed my shoulder, so now I have to get myself back into a real routine. Oy.

It does take time to get our bodies back to burning fat, again. I gained all of my weight back but it is finally starting to come off again. We can do this. Don't stress about it, just ease back into your good healthy habits again.

Thanks Mom2Boxers -- but the specter of gaining all the weight back is horrifying! I have been down this road several times and I have sworn to myself, this is absolutely the last time. I don't think I gained much beause my clothes feel OK. But I'm refuse to weigh myself for a while yet. It might be too discouraging.

If your clothes still fit okay, I bet you didn't do as badly as you think you did.

I can sympathize with you about your arm. I had rotator cuff repair in July and totaled my Honda in October. All these obstacles just make it sweeter when you overcome them. I live in Montana where winter causes a tad bit of cabin fever. But, Spring is coming and I feel good. I'm two weeks strong at lchf and loving it.
