I LOVE radishes. Could eat them all the time and I do! I am happy for you that you found a substitute for potatoes. I am IF and LCHF and really getting used to it.

My friend suggested radishes too. I can't wait to try them. I have some in the fridge ready to go. Do you eat the greens as well?

I did not eat the greens...had no idea that you could....can you? Are they bitter, I wonder?

I love to eat radish sprouts but never tried the greens. I wonder if they are bitter? That is something I can't stand.

You can also do turnips -- not quite as low carb as radishes, but way lower than potatoes, yet just as satisfying. Be careful of parsnips, though. They're higher carb, higher glycemic.

Never heard of cooking radishes. I've got some in the fridge, might have to try this.

They're great sautéed in butter too. Roast swede (rutabaga) is good too but you're starting to slide up the carb scale. Still, if you're measuring it's not a problem, you just make sure you keep under your limit by not having something else. Sounds like a good pot roast!

Hmmm... I've never tried radishes that way, though they are pretty awesome in substiting for hash browns. I've tried rutabaga, which is passable, but a little on the sweet side to me.

I use radishes as my potato substitute too. They make a better substitute than cauliflower, in my opinion. I am using them to make scalloped "potatoes" tonight for dinner. :)

Hey Mousy.. do you have a recipe for the scalloped 'potatoes'? I've put radishes in with my roasts and fried them like hash browns. They work really well. I did not know you could eat the greens. I usually buy them in little bags without the greens, but I'll give that a try. Very interesting post and comment. Thanks, Donna

Oh yeah! Pot Roast with radishes! First time Angie made it this way, I said, we cant eat potatoes! She said they are radishes! I said Are Not!.....But, they were...radishes.....and delicious....they had turned white just like potatoes! Did not miss them at all!

Kim, your post just opened up my world to some great potato substitutes! 😊 I have eaten so much cauliflower, I am almost sick of it. LOL! My mother always had raw radishes on the table. I haven't eaten them for years! Never did I know I could roast them. I am going to try this. I also never considered roasting turnips as a substitute for potatoes, either, Hermoines Mom.

do they have to hotness raw radishes have?

In with the roast, they had NONE of the flavor of radish. I would not have been able to tell the difference between potatoes and radish. They took on the flavor of the roast in crock pot. I am anxious to try roasting to see what the flavor is...

Sometimes we make like "fried potatoes" - radishes, onions, fried in some coconut oil. Yummy! Great to use to make "Corned Beef Hash"!
