When someone tells you "All you have to do is drink more water and exercise more...It's that easy." 😒 If it was that easy I wouldn't be struggling to lose weight... I don't know..it just really bugged me. I workout at least 4 hours a week and drink half my weight in water but I also have to count calories and watch everything that I eat. I can't enjoy sweets and junk food everyday even if it falls into my calories and still lose weight. I wish I was that lucky. 😫

Everyone is different. With that said, protein fills me up and carbs and sugar do ZERO for me. So, when I'm eating my calories, I try to make sure it has as much protein and as few carbs and/or sugar as possible. I'm not full-on keto, but I'm somewhat close. I can eat 1600 calories worth of high protein food/drinks in a day and be full most of the day. Compare with high protein products, I can have 2600 calories in high carb and sugar products and still keep eating.

That "someone" is ignorant and giving advice that is wrong. I get bothered when people ask how I lost weight, like I found a miracle pill. It's hard work 24/7.

Macros are more important that calories, it's not as simple as calorie in/calorie out or nobody would be fat.

"...it's not as simple as calorie in/calorie out or nobody would be fat." I agree and disagree. If your body needs 2000 calories and you only consume 1500 calories, it will get those extra 500 from your reserve (AKA fat). However, once we are down to our goal weight (and during the journey), there is a big difference between goal weight healthy and goal weight unhealthy, which is all about macros.

If you're properly managing macros calories don't matter because they naturally fall into line.

@Phil, I would agree with that. However, people have a hard enough time trying to understand and manage calorie counts let alone macros. For me personally, I started with CICO, then I started learning and managing macros.

It's really not hard, cut out the sugar and limit the starch to 20g/day, weight will drop, insulin levels will normalize, hunger will vanish. Conversely, set a goal of 1800 kcals/day, eat a lot of sugar and starch, and you will want to rip your eyeballs out of their sockets.

It's NOT that easy, maybe for some people but not for most of us. The books "Fat Chance" and "Always Hungry" both explain how a calorie is not a calorie, how sugar is addictive, toxic, and both a fat and a carb (basically evil). Check out www.brightlineeating.com for some motivation. It helped me lose 20 lbs in 8 weeks and more importantly feel free from all the food noise in my head. It might help you, too.
