badhairdaylady's Journal, 11 December 2016

The past few days, I've educated myself on the different fats and which are good or bad. Still eating tons of veggies. I've discovered the world of smoothies! They satisfy my sweet tooth and that constant urge I had to have a glass of juice by my side. I do work from home and I'm on the phone and have to keep those vocal cords lubricated!

I have been very exacting in the record of everything I consume and last night being my end of week, I went over everything to see if there was anything I would change or if there was something in there that is a no-no. I think the biggest no-no seemed to be the meal I had with ground beef, the fat was horrible, but the protein was excellent. The other thing was the two tiny cubes of cheese I treated myself to. But...and this is a big but...it would be nice to cheat (don't tell anybody) once in a while!
184.2 lb Lost so far: 5.8 lb.    Still to go: 44.2 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

My view is that animal fats and concentrated fats are bad. That is backed up by studies on heart attack rates across countries and ethnic groups. So yeah skip the olive oil and eat olives, avacadoes, nuts and 100 percent cacao. Probably can eat seeds too. I haven't looked into that in terms of carbohydrate load. Any other suggestions for fatty vegetarian foods lmk. Eskimos (what are we supposed to call them now? Alaskan Natives? First peoples?) traditionally had a diet so full of fat you would think they should have all been keeling over from heart attacks. The mystery was partially solved by discovering the effects of omega fatty acids. So fish is at least a neutral.

You do have what has traditionally been called the French Paradox. A high percentage of smokers with a very nasty fat heavy diet but so yummy lol. They got more activity than the rest of us, drank wine, and practiced portion control which is the speculation for the difference. However now they are getting as fat and sedentary as the rest of us and slamming down burgers and fries lol.

Marcus Welby...I'm old enough to remember who that was, are you a doctor or nutritionist? I am an excellent cook and love to bake, my greatest downfall! I quit smoking about a year ago (after 38 years), live alone, kids are long grown and gone, nearly 52 and work from home (sometimes up to 14 hrs/day). My lifestyle is pretty sedentary so with that recipe, I've gotten into some pretty nasty eating habits and my weight has ballooned. As many of the ladies in my age group know, what once was is not the same now, and our bodies don't process foods like it used to! We can look at something yummy and the pounds just fly onto our guts and hips! This is what happened to me. Time for changes! I think one reason I have an awareness of a lot of foods is that my daughter has Type 1 diabetes, we discuss food all the time!

@badhairlady. I am an old doctor who has made every weight loss mistake in the book lol. That is where I learned the secret to weight loss, by doing everything wrong first until the only thing left to try was the right thing (for me lol. Your mileage may vary). Nutrition and longevity research interests me the older I get lol.
