Hi all

Been a long time. I felt like I needed to be honest with myself and weigh in. I gained weight so fast. I didnt realize that I gained even though I have not been that bad eating. I was finishing school which took up a ton of time and hard to keep active. But I have been lifting every week 1x during school. Since school ended I have been walking like crazy and now getting in 2-3x weight lifting days in.

However, I can't seem to control my weight and my body. I looked back at my hormone test results. I see that I have a slight insulin resistant issue which my doctor sort of explained. She just mentioned I had a hormone imbalance. But the results say I am possibly insulin resistant which is part of the hormone imbalance thing. I think this is the key to my weight issues. Because I am active.

I have to say its been a very difficult few months. I have a huge vacation during xmas and my weight is just not moving. Beginning of november i was 173. Now I am down to 168 and barely getting lower. I did some research on being insulin resistant. Pretty much I need to stay away from high carb processed foods, get sleep, workout and try not to be stressed

Anyone every overcome this? If so can you give me advise. I never felt so out of control of my own body! Its like no matter how healthy I eat I get no where. Then I give up. Do I stay strict and avoid gluten and just eat whole foods? will this fix this?

thanks
Ashley

What's your diet like now and what was it like in the past? Are you taking any medications at this time? Other medical issues? You may want to re-evaluate your diet. The activity sounds decent. This can be corrected and needs to be corrected now. This is a pre-cursor to the big D. I agree with the info that you found while researching.

I am insulin resistant and have been for at least 20 years. I gain rapidly when I eat very many carbs and worst of all I cannot seem control my portions when I start getting into too many carbs for me, which is actually quite a low number (~60 gr). The good news is, insulin resistant people can lose weight if they really lower carbs. And best of all, if you do that you won't experience blood sugar swings that make you hungry and/or drive you to eat even if you aren't actually hungry.

THanks everyone. My diet did change. over the summer I was eating extra carbs left and right for month and got a huge gain. I was so stressed about being perfect, and slipping up made me crazy. I try to keep a paleo lifestyle. I think omitting all grains is the key, but I have to admit it is tough. I do my best on this part. I notice I get carb cravings though. If I dont eat any starchy carbs I tend to crave it unless I eat a ton of veggies/meat. But sometimes I notice I dont have an appetite for meat sometimes. Like at work I have spaghetti squash and meat balls and have no desire to eat it so I am eating natural salami and cheese...lol My doctor says my active life isnt the issue that she thinks I have a lot of stress that I put myself under. With food, and life in general. I have a lot of stress/pressure that I dont actually realize is stress. She wants me to get as much whole foods veggies/meats as possible and also keep fruit in to not stress me out more...I hope it works out

Pain I am the same way, I look at food and do not realize that I am eating it until I have ate it. I was doing great and I blinked my eye and wow it is back on. You have all my support.

High carb makes weight loss extremely difficult for most people, impossible for some. Diligence and discipline will get you where you want to be.

I recently found out I was type 2 diabetic in Feb. It was a major life style change, not to mention a big wake up call. I consulted with a dietician who specializes in this disease. Once I figured out how to eat a balanced and learned carb serving and the fiber intake/net carb thing. It has taken a while but I am getting a grip on this slowly. I wanted to tell you to you are not out of control. You are going to have a day where you mess up, but you get back on it the next day. This is what it feels like at first when you first trying to get your blood sugars under control. I still struggle with it daily. Remember this. You make time for what you want to make time for in life. Make exercise even if it is a 15 min walk a part of your normal day. Just walking for that amount of time will lower your blood sugar. When you sugars are out of control it will make you feel tired and cranky. First and foremost you DON"T QUIT. Even if you are making small progress it is STILL PROGRESS. Stress does play a major role in this imbalance. I have never posted on these comments before but when I seen what you were feeling is where I have been and some days I feel that way too. you are not alone and have to fighting everyday. Everyday do something good for yourself.

Welcome back! I'm no expert on insulin resistance but can speak from my own situation. I was pre-diabetic and my fasting glucose level was around 110, gradually going up every time I had lab work. The combination of cutting out or way back on processed/simple carbs and sugars, increasing dietary fiber, plus regular exercise took care of that for me and enabled me to lose a lot of weight. I've been fairly incognito the past few months until recently and put some pounds back on...while I've kept up the exercise all along I allowed myself way too many eating indulgences and stopped tracking my food. The key to success for me is food planning, sticking to my macro targets, and accurately tracking what I eat. When I'm consistent and dedicated to it, I do very well. When I don't I'm back to where I am now which is taking off the same pounds I'd previously lost. All that to say this: You did great in the past so my 2 cents is to evaluate what you did before compared to what you're doing now...that will likely reveal things you can do to get back to where you want to be.

i didnt loose anything all this year until about 4 weeks ago . I bounced around and tried some new diets but never ever committed to anything. The only thing that saved me was working out which kept me from gaining , Then I restarted low carb 4 weeks and I mean strict low carb, no soda, no no low carb products, no fruit, ect. and instead of counting net carbs , I counted total carbs only allowing myself 35 a day and not eating one store bought item that had more then 7 total carbs. I know it sounds really extreme but Im down 9 lbs in 3.5 weeks and Im sure to hit 10 when I weight in on Thursday. Low carb isnt for everyone but its working again for me.. Hang in there and dont give up. You will find what works for you soon enough bc you have been doing your homework ..

Some people especially females can't lose weight until they drop the carbs to 100 grams or less per day. Drop the butter and oil too. Cut the big part of the fat off the bacon. Skip the yolk of the egg too. An equivalent calorie level of cheese is at least three times the volume of that tablespoon of butter or oil. Lean proteins and fresh or cooked vegetables only, assuming you are not on diabetic meds or have passed out from hypoglycemia.

You won't be hungry either on a high protein ketogenic diet.

@redgirl. Your experience is not atypical. I recommend cutting fats where feasible and certainly not adding any fats to anything such as salad dressing.

Please look at Diet Doctor...I am diabetic. Have been following a LCHF diet since May...I have my diabetes completely under control and I am not hungry ever! I lose weight slowly but I am 70 years young and not as active as I once was. My latest blood work said that I was normal....it can be done! Good luck.
