Sandy701's Journal, 23 December 2011

3.1 miles walked to day, all but the last half-mile done with both doggies and DH. Much cooler today, so I was bundled up in jeans, sweater, fleece vest, jacket, earband, gloves, well....you get the picture.

DH and I headed out to lunch at Ruby Tuesday's today where I had a lunch plate of jumbo shrimp scampi. No noodles....just a clear garlic butter sauce with a hint of lemon juice. I think there were 6 or 7 medium shrimp on the plate. I find it hard to believe that that amount of shrimp had 17 net carbs in it! I went with the broccoli side but swapped out the mashed potatoes for some grilled zucchini. Anyway, I checked on the RT website and the numbers are correct for what I ate. Just going to go along with what I had planned to eat for the rest of the day. I'm not going to skimp because of a questionable NC amount. If I'm wrong....so be it.

But aside from all that, it was a VERY GOOD lunch; very tasty indeed!

After getting home, I finished up letters to go with Christmas cards and JUST made them out to the mailbox prior to mail pick-up - Whew! People will get the cards and letters after Christmas, but that's OK....just extends the holiday season!

Sandy, you did great at RT, & your lunch sounds ummmm ummmm yummy good! I agree, not to worry about the counts for today, somethings you just have to roll with & this sure is the time of year to roll with it! So glad you got your cards out...I just love your attitude of how that extends the holiday season! Merry, Merry Christmas to you, my good buddy dear!

What makes you think there were so many net carbs? Were they breaded? I went to RT and looked as well and that's what I came up with: Jumbo Skewered Shrimp cal 367 fat32 carb5 fiber2 protein19 sodium1163. If you looked for Petite Jumbo Shrimp Scampi of course, read the side note: Petite Lunch Plates NOTE: Petite Plates, excluding salads, include White Cheddar Mashed Potatoes and Fresh Steamed Broccoli. I hope you get a little bit more peace now :-) Have a merry, merry Christmas :-)

You know Jozette, I saw that side note as well. (I DID order the Petite Jumbo Shrimp Scampi, which is not breaded, BTW.) But when I took the Shrimp plate totals and subtracted out the nutrition info for the broccoli and mashed potatoes...as a test to see if the Shrimp totals included both those sides...I ended up with a mere 60 calories for the shrimp and a -5 total carbs(!). Wouldn't that be great....eat a food and have it negate some other carbs?! What I suspect is that the portion size of the sides is different when it's part of the lunch plate than when it's served separately, so the nutrition facts are different, as well. At least that's what I'm telling myself and that's why I'm not too stressed about seeming to go over my target carbs for the day. I'm thankful RT HAS the nutrition facts online and they're updated peridically PLUS they have a reasonable selection of various foods that WILL work on this WOE. Thanks for checking on all this for me, as it's reassuring that someone else is thinking the same thing! Have a Merry Christmas, too.

There are funny things out there. I went onto a, I think it BK, site to look for nutrition and with some burgers and it was interactive. You could click on how you want to eat it and it would adjust the information. I really liked that :-) I am sure the single sides are bigger than what comes with the meal, especially since it is called "Petite" and it makes sense when you just look at the amount of carbs mashed potatoes provide, to subtract some of it. I think at times we have to learn to trust our instincts and as long as it is not sugar or bread covered it is quite right.
