northernmusician's Journal, 17 October 2016

It was a tough week, and it was a good week with my Dad and my sister. I spent a lot of time with Dad, and as you can see a lot of that time was eating. He loves to go out when I'm there. :) We have settled on a spring memorial service and scattering of ashes, and I have a lot on my plate looking after the consolidation and organization of what are now solely Dad's affairs. I'm so fortunate to still have him at 88.

It's tough to focus on the positive, but there is a lot of positive. Summer of 2015 I truly thought I was saying goodbye to mom in the hospital. We had another year with her, and she had a very good year all things considered. Each day I remember more things about her and smile. Sometimes it's through tears, but that's how it should be.

200 is my threshold. I'm now looking at losing 15 pounds or so, but will attempt to do it through the discipline of carb cycling. Diet was pretty much out of control when I was down south, but I had bigger things to consider. Thanks for being here for me everyone.
200.4 lb Lost so far: 0 lb.    Still to go: 8.4 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

My sincerest condolences in the loss of your mother! May you and your father have many blessed days together, and keep your mother's love alive through your shared memories of her. And always remember, in the grand scheme of life, a minor setback on a diet is really such a trivial thing. It will be there tomorrow, and every day is a chance to eat healthy. Many warm and happy wishes to you and your family!

These events are the part of getting older that really sucks. And yet, it's the cycle of life. I'm glad you have happy memories of your mom, and made some more with your dad. Welcome back, NM.

Dear NM, I feel your pain, something about losing our mothers is like nothing else in life. I'd say to your 3 pounds, "That's all?". From my Christian beliefs I take comfort in knowing there is some good to come. Aren't you the fellow who recently visited his newest grandson. Wasn't that your mothers twinkle you saw? Time to make the doughnuts...May God go with you...🕊

Family time is so important when going through such a loss. If dad likes to go out to eat then certainly you must take him and enjoy that time together. Now you can get back into your routine. I hope you believe as I do that it is not goodbye, but rather until we meet again. Hugs

I do believe. I think while we were grieving her departure, mom was busy with a grand reunion. She was unique, but all are. That being said, she was my mom, and there was no one else like her.

blessings to you as you go through this time. I'll have you and your family in my prayers. i lost my mama when i was about 17 and it was the hardest thing i've ever gone through. the first year was the worst but it got better...not easier...to remember her with love and happy thoughts and not so many sad ones. I'll send good thoughts your way, too.

Sorry to hear about your mum. Your outlook on things is commendable and a great example for me and anyone. Thank you for that. Life happens and making lemonade out of lemons is a great lesson. Being grateful for the things we have is also a great tool to have in your life toolbox. You are a power of example. My sincere condolences to you and your family. Dave B
