Welp. Nothing throws a monkey wrench in the works like a hurricane on the horizon.
The tech that was going to fix my main computer can't get here because the lines at the gas stations are wrapped around the block. The governor of SC ordered mandatory evacuations for the county I work in starting at 3 PM tomorrow, even though the storm isn't expected here until Thursday afternoon. My county is inland, and uphill from the coast, so aside from a lot of rain, and some high winds, I should be alright.
The old computer shut itself off yesterday afternoon for no apparent reason, and would not boot back up. I figured it was dead. It still wouldn't boot this morning, so I was really counting on the tech getting here. But, when I got home from work, I crossed my fingers and turned it on, and up it came! So, it's a mixed bag....the "good" computer is probably not going to get worked on until next week, but for now, tentatively, I can use the old one. We'll see if the power grid gets affected by the storm.
And if it craps out again, I have an old netbook that will work in a pinch.
I'll check in as I can.
In the meantime, stay the course, buddies, and for those affected by this storm, know I have you in my prayers.

Praying for all in the path of the storm. We were in Katrina, so I know what's coming your way. God Bless!

I had a computer that used to do that. Would turn itself off.. not turn on at times... I don't know how tech saavy you are, but it ended up being the Power Supply. I just had to open the tower and screw it out and put in a new one.. like changing a battery.... But.... of course it can be many things... If I was there, I'd try to help you out..

I've checked with my Guides, and they say we'll get a lot of rain and some gusty winds, but all is well. My property is basically a piney woods, but they bend rather than break. it's been dry here the last few weeks, so the sandy soil will be able to absorb a lot of water. @Pickles, I'm pretty savvy, but this is my backup computer, and not overly concerned about the fix...unless I have to use it for more than a week. It's slower than I'm used to, but I can do what I need to. Thanks though. I may look into it so I have a backup.

I have a totally different reaction to natural disasters after the fire in Fort McMurray wiped out my neighbourhood. My thoughts go out to those in Haiti and all along the coast that are sitting, waiting, praying and knowing what is to come.

Good luck in the evacuation, I'm in North Carolina and they haven't taken those kind of extreme measures. If I was in Charleston or Beaufort along the coast I'd already be gone though.

@Gungahick, I'm about 25 miles inland, and my house is elevated, so I'm staying put. It looks like it's going to be turning away from us now, too. I'm staying off the major roads when I go to work today, though... I think our governor jumped the gun a little issuing the evacuation order. 2 of my clients for this morning canceled because they were leaving town last night. Even though officials are telling people to stay put until their zones are called for. *sigh*
