Sarah1950's Journal, 29 July 2016

I've been having a run of bad luck.
My hardwood floors had to be sanded and varnished 2 extra times. It was a big inconvenience, the logistics of moving furniture and cleaning everything. What was to be completed on Wednesday took until the following Monday. Oh brother.

A few weeks ago I got an insect bite on my arm. Mind you, I'm not usually allergic to anything (but avocados...lol). Last week the whole arm swelled up and the redness started going up my arm above the elbow. Finally went to the doctor on Monday. I have cellulitis. They tested for Lyme, but since I haven't had any ticks, I wasn't concerned. Got a call today, test results are positive for Lyme. So I have to take the antibiotic for 2 weeks instead of one. Avoid the sun. My blood sugars have been higher than usual, probably from the bacterial infection.

I never jumped ship on my diet but I did have difficulty with logging my food for about 4 days. It was my birthday on Wednesday and I had a houseguest on Tuesday and Wednesday. There has been so much chaos.

I think things are finally back to normal. Not sure I've lost any weight for these last two weeks which is disappointing. I'm so close to reaching onederland. Torture, pure and simple. I remember reading about the mental aspects of breaking through perceived barriers. I feel strongly that this is happening to me. A kind of self imposed roadblock. My Monday weigh-in will be here soon enough. I'm so happy to be back, sitting on my own couch, reading & writing with my FS buddies.

Don't stress. Lyme disease is serious, so just work on being healthy and well rested while your body is fighting it off. Health issues trump diet pressures. Belated happy birthday!

Lyme disease is a big deal. Take it day by day. You can do this!

Lyme and cellulitis are BOTH big deals! Some birthday present. Blah! I agree with the others..health trumps losing weight, but diet can help with health. Make sure you take a good probiotic while you're doing the antibiotics, so your gut stays healthy.

Starve that bacteria and reduce inflammation by refusing wheat and sugar! You will get better, and you will feel so darn grateful that you're not sick, it will give you new resolve and energy. Bone broth, especially chicken, is in order! ☺

I have some friends who did the inflammation diet to address their Lyme's symptoms and it really helped them.

Well, my dear, I know this is little consolation, but hope you enjoyed your birthday. With Lyme you are in the company of Alec Baldwin, George Bush, Daryl Hall, Ben Stiller, and the list goes on and on. Hope things improve!

Just to clarify, I don't have any symptoms of Lyme disease. I think I caught it early and so the antibiotics will kill the bacteria. I suspect that the side effects of the antibiotics are more trouble than my experience with the Lyme. The test showed Lyme antibodies in my blood (whatever's that means.). Also, the same antibiotic is used to treat both the cellulitis and Lyme, I just have to take it for a longer period of time. This does not give me any excuse to lighten up on my WOE. I did give up on my challenge Get Fit Beginner. Too many old lady aches and pains, sciatica, arthritis, tendinitis. I had these before the diagnosis of Lyme. BTW, I didn't have any visible tick bites so I am suspect about the diagnosis anyway. I am grateful to have these antibiotics b/c the cellulitis is almost gone. Thanks for all your support, kindness and advice. Have a nice weekend. 😛

Wow. Lyme is serious, and I am so glad you were diagnosed early before the problems manifest. Stay well and be careful.
